Do Latino people have the power+ privilege that white people have?

Can Latino people be racist, or are they prejudiced?

Of course they can, and hopefully this poll reaches an even better ratio than the one about Black people.

Also, some Latinos are White.

I still can't believe 2 out of 75 people voted "No" in that poll. Current tally is 6-0.

Any member of any racial group can be prejudiced against members of any racial group. Racial hierarchies and in-group/out-group dynamics are different from country to country.

Whether one has power or privilege is irrelevant to racism.

Not at the moment. Once white America is completely subjugated, BLM will turn on them.

Lol, the idea that only white people can be racist is a fringe opinion.

Ah, but it's a fringe left wing opinion, so opposing it makes you right wing, and being right wing means you must be a Republican. Tongue

To understand if a people can be racist then we must first understand race. Race is not real, it is a creation of society. It is used to develop tribalism. There was once a time where the Irish and Italians were not considered to be “white”. Race is constantly developing and changing to fit the current societies need for oppression. Race itself is the child of racism, it is used by those in power to continue to profit off of the suffering of others by furthering their own goals. Racism will only end when it is no longer profitable.
From a systematic perspective the answer to this question is no. Latine people are currently exploited and victimized by an oppressive system that is meant to put them at a lower social caste than those considered “white”. That doesn’t mean Latine people cannot be individually prejudiced against Caucasian, Black, AAPI, or Indigenous Americans. Racism though is not really possible for the people of the Latine community as they are systematically oppressed they lack the institutional power to oppress the other “races”.
One may ask how we as a society and people of privilege can change this systematic corruption that put us in this position of power. What we can do is abolish the oppression and establish an equity of opportunity for all people in this nation. The most obvious things we can do to abolish the barriers to success faced by oppressed people are an overhaul of American policing, including anti-bias training, allowing for officers to realize their prejudice and letting them combat it themselves. There is also of course ending qualified immunity, which will ensure officers are forced to follow the same laws as those they are pledged to serve and protect.
These are of course just a couple ideas of one part of the battle for freedom for the oppressed people in this nation. I understand that this is a hot button topic, if you have any questions please do not feel afraid to question my arguments by quoting them in this thread, or by personal messaging me.

Latinos are notoriously racist against blacks, which is why Trump over performed with them this year.

Nobody is immune to the racist virus regardless race, ethnicity political and religious beliefs

You are right, some "Latinos" are White. "Latino" is a category that includes Latin Americans of varied races, with a high orevalence of people with mixed races

Anyway the question in the OP denotes a victimizing attitude typical in some white males feeling their privileges are threatened

Everybody can be racist but whites are not the victims of racism in our societies

Latino is an ethnicity related to culture and geography, not a race. Kinda like the broad “Middle Easterners”. People in US usually think of Latino as a race when they think of brownish mixed people since miscegenation was stronger in Latin America, representing a high share of population. But there are also Black Latinos (or Afro-Latinos), White Latinos, Yellow Latinos (aka Asians), etc. Brazil for example has the highest Japanese population outside of Japan and the highest Lebanese population of the world, higher than even Lebanon.

But even if Latin America as a whole is probably the most diverse place on the planet, there is still racism because that’s a socially constructed feature. It’s also hard to categorize Latin America as a whole, which is why in US the “Latino race” is associated to what you see in Mexico and some Central American countries because those places represent big majority of Latinos living in the US.

But racial demographics vary a lot depending of geography, as during colonization the Europeans wanted to settle for a living in places with climate more similar to the one in Europe, reason why places distant from Equator Line like Canada, Argentina, Uruguay and US (especially in the North of US) are super white.

Meanwhile, places that were too hot were viewed for exploration purposes only, a place they needed to extract wealth for Europe but wouldn’t immigrate in such big numbers as those other places. That’s why these places tended to receive more Africans who were brought in the continent for slavery during colonial times.

I probably have this view because I’m Brazilian though, which is the most diverse place of LatAm because of its continental huge size, making these geographical differences possible to observe even inside the country: Northeast has a lot of African culture influence, while the South region close to Argentina and Uruguay has strong European influence. It’s like there are different countries inside one, which makes the “racism” in each place a bit different as well since it’s something that exists everywhere in the world, but with characteristics adapted to each location. Other Latin Americans may have a different background, places like Bolivia and Peru for example, have a stronger Indigenous influence to this day compared to everyone else.

Btw, even “Asians” shouldn’t be a race because it specifically is about those typical Eastern Asian features (Korea, China, Japan, etc), but Asia itself is much bigger than that. India and Middle East countries are part of Asia as well and those “Asian” racial features aren’t associated with them, which kinda makes these non-East Asian places invisible as well. Here we officially use “Yellow” to refer to those specific Eastern Asian features.

Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to physical appearance and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another.[1][2][3][4]

By common defintion, of course. Just like black people can be racist, too.

Some of the most virulently racist (and, for that matter, antisemitic) people I've ever met have been Latinos.

Yes. Being from a specific racial, gender, religious, ethnic, cultural, regional, gender expression, or sexual orientation does not definitively prevent or guarantee that someone is racist. Not all NRA members like guns (Michael Moore joined to end the NRA). Not all African-Americans are nonracist. This applies to other groups on other topics, such as the fact that there are definitely some racist Hispanics.

Yes.  Everyone can.

But even if we assume racism has a power component, it seems evident to me that there are situations in which a Latino person might have "power" over other races.  A Latino business owner denying service to a black person in their restaurant is occurring independently of any sort of white supremacy while a Latino business owner denying service to a white customer is a situation in which the business owner has the power.
