Jpost reports that the parties are aiming for a majority vote on Thursday at the latest. Shaas is standing by Netanyahu versus a different Likudnik, so there isn't a majority for that even if Bibi could set his ego aside. Abbas is to vote in favor rather than abstain, which probably means a lot of (desperately needed) pork-barrel investment is coming to Arab communities.

EDIT: The timetable has been moved up to Tuesday.

Dare I say it's too soon, but:

HEY I HAVE A WHOLE MEME PREPARED IN THAT FORMAT

The grandest of coalitions.

Fun fact: this is how Bibi actually looks like under the makeup. Staying in power despite losing four elections is hazardous for your health.

Presidential election will be held in 2.6. candidates have to submit 10 signatures from MKs until 19.5, so expect a flurry of activity this and next week.

Herzog the frontrunner atm. Bibi has a week to decide what he does, I suppose he will look into it after the government is sworn in

The most amazing result would be both Herzog and Bibi running, and Herzog winning this time. While Bennet and Lapid are PMs. The most ultimate f you to Netanyahu I can imagine.

Ra'am froze talks because of an escalation with Hamas after some sort of clash at the Al-Aqsa Mosque the other day.

The likely government we could've had:
PM Bennet
Foreign Lapid
Defense Gantz
Finance Lieberman
Justice Sa'ar
Education Shasha Biton
Home Shaked
Transportation Michaeli
Health Horovitz
Internal Security Bar Lev
Environment Zandberg
Welfare Barbivai
Social Equality Merav Cohen
Communications Elharar
Immigration Tamano Shata
Culture and Sports Trooper
Religion Kahana
Agriculture Ben Barak
Speaker Meir Cohen

Depressing that we've lost this. Would've been so much better

No one wanted the ministry of Economy? I think we should agree on the chancellor in Israel being the treasury, more in line with the Hebrew origin (אוצר לא מימון).

But aye, this coalition is gone. There will be a new coalition after round 5, but I think without the left by then.

I definitely don't want to put on a conspiracy theory hat, but a large part of me thinks Netanyahu found and exploited the weak link in the coalition. I certainly think he's capable of that.

Did he orchestrate it? no, I don't think so.
Is he to blame? yes, but allowing Ohana and the new chief of police to run amok
will he take advantage of it politically? you can bet you Yankee behind on it

That's a fair point. I think very few leaders or governments have the ability to light a fire themselves intentionally when it comes to situations like these, but many are more than pleased when they happen. I would assume that it would be quite difficult to orchestrate with Gantz as Minister of Defense, right?

I certainly hope talks for a government can be salvaged. Are they completely dead or is there any way to salvage things? It would be unfortunate for Israel and the rest of the world if Netanyahu somehow found a way to finish off talks leading to his own defeat and then turns around and wins the next election on a national security platform.

That "sort of clash" might trigger a civil war or a new Intifada, but you frame it as it was an anecdotical event.  I don't want to disturb your speculations on coalition talks, but it's extremely difficult to dissociate them from reality. It's like emperor Nero playing the lyre while Rome Jerusalem bursts into flames. In any case, from what I've been gathering, the anti-Bibi coalition wouldn't change anything and the chances for another electoral repetition are high,  so my interest in these dealings is very limited in comparison to the impending violence that darkens the horizon

Bennett pulls out of the coalition talks. Now it’s either he talks Saar into a right wing coalition with him first. Or fifth election

Yeah, basically I think he let them (Kahanists and Ohana) light the fire for him. Also hamas might be looking out for him

Possibly the greatest political Houdini in history. What they're currently doing to Gaza would be better off being called "Operation Keep Bibi Out of Prison".

Biden certainly did his part in talking to Netanyahu and saying Israel "has a right to defend itself". He should have said that our aid wasn't unconditional and that he'd wait until a new government was formed to speak with the Prime Minister.

Indeed, Biden did his part. Is it the first time Bibi uses the *right of Israel to defend itself* within the *escalation of the conflict* to his advantage?

I hope nobody is surprised to discover that Bibi is the smartest beast in that pack of hyenas. Otherwise wake up, folks. Don't pretend Israel is a democracy and you are discussing coalition formation in Belgium or the Netherlands
