Trump got 11% of the vote in Compton, California compared to 4.33% he got 4 years ago and Romney 3.51% in 2012.

McCain 2008 got 4.17%
Bush 2004 got 8.56%
Bush 2000 got 3.67%
Dole 1996 got 2.44%(LOL)

Trump got the best vote share here since Nixon 72.

Why did this happen? it seems like this area is pro incumbent but the increase in votes is crazy. He tripled his vote total from 4 years from 1100 to 3300

This area is infamous as you all know.

Because of the same reason that led to him improving everywhere else with a significant Hispanic population.

One factor that shouldn't be ignored is that the electorate is shifting from majority black to majority Hispanic in Compton, the city's overall population having shifted several years before but there's  obviously been a lag due to Hispanics being younger and less likely to be citizens. Obviously both are majority Democratic, but Hispanics-even urban Latinos-vote slightly Democratic than the monolithic 90 to 95% support we are used to from the black vote.

Trump improved his vote% in Los Angeles County.

Trump improved his vote% in Hispanic-heavy communities.

Compton is a Hispanic-heavy community in Los Angeles County.

Trump improved his vote% in Compton,California.

You'll wind up with similar answers if you asked about Imperial County, Fontana, Coachella, Santa Ana or any other majority-minority SoCal community. Just because it's "infamous" doesn't make Compton an exception.

Frankly, I think 95% of the questions or analysis this election regarding California & swings/trends/improvements can be summed up as either "COVID-related angst among working-class minorities" or "Just noise"

Compton used to be majority Black now majority Hispanics.  Both vote Democrat but Hispanics aren't as lopsided as Blacks are so as it becomes more Hispanic makes sense it would narrow.
