Hello losers from 2004!
I have time travelled from December 2020.
Ask me anything about the future, whether it involves elections/politics or anything else.

Well...neither of them.
The problem is they both don’t get the nomination.
As for who won?

Illinois Senator Barack Obama who was just elected in your year if my time machine hasn’t broken yet.

Has Winona Ryder’s career recovered?
What happened to that hip new band from Canada Tegan and Sara, which has openly gay twin sisters?
How are Marvel movies?
What becomes of Harry Potter?

Donald J Trump (R) is the current president but he just lost his re-election bid to Joe Biden (D)

Well obviously lots. 16 years is a long time.
Michael Jackson, Robin Williams, Whitney Houston, Gary Coleman, Steve Irwin are a few. You can ask me about specifics if you want.

Yeah. She isn’t as prominent as she was in 2004, but she still is well known and respected. She had a peak in 2011 tbh.

Well...it’s complicated. We withdrew from Iraq in 2011 but then an Islamic fundametalist rogue state rose in the power vacuum. We went back in and fought them starting in 2014. As of now the State is gone although the group still exists. Things are certainly better now but Iraq was a mess for a long time. We don’t have many troops nowadays in Iraq.

The Apprentice lasted for fourteen successful seasons before Trump began his political career (and he started with his presidential run)
Schwarzenegger took control of the show for a season. We haven’t had a new season since 2017.

Yeah, she returned from her hiatus in 2006 and has since acted in several movies/shows. She isn’t a huge household name but she is still around and doing well.

They are still around and have released nine albums by now. They also engaged in some political activism in the early 2010’s. I believe they released their memoir recently.

Marvel Movies are bigger than ever (in terms of popularity) They’ve released a bunch of movies since 2004 and several have received many awards and were extremely popular among the public. Marvel certainly has grown recently.

Harry Potter itself is still around, but certainly not as big as before. The main series ends up with seven books total and movies of each were released subesequently.
JK Rowling tried to make some sequel books but they didn’t catch on.

Recently she also has been in some controversy over her stances on certain social issues, I think she has angered both sides at this point.

Hillary got extremely close to the Dem nomination but lost to Obama in 2008. There were rumors of her being a VP for him in 2012 but that never happened. She was the Dem nominee in 2016 and narrowly lost to Donald Trump. Her political career is pretty much over now.

SARS itself never came back, but 2020 will bring a type of coronavirus similar to SARS which turns into a super deadly pandemic. It has defined this year and still is raging. About 3,000 people are dying in America each day from it (although we are at a peak now)

No. Georgia got much closer in 2008/2012. In 2016 Hillary lost but still managed to get within 5% margin in Georgia. In 2018 the Democrats gained the former seat of Newt Gingrich (lol) and in 2020 Georgia narrowly voted for Joe Biden. The political map has changed a bit from your time.

Did the Dems manage to improve in the South and Appalachia? Were Bush’s performances there a one-off?

No Padme is dead.
I’m not a huge Star Wars fan so I’m not entirely sure but that is what the internet is telling me.

In the South? Yes but no.

Arkansas and Louisiana are safe Republican. Rural white Southerners have basically abandoned the Democrats. Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina also are safe R (although the last could change eventually)
However, Southern suburbs have heavily swung to the Democrats. Virginia is now a near safe Democratic state and North Carolina/Georgia are swing states. Even Texas is now only lean R.

As for Appalachia, Republicans are winning by dictatorship-esque margins over there. Not a single county in WV voted for Biden in 2020 and no rural KY counties did either.

Bush’s performances were not a one off, in fact they were precursors to the realignment we are currently in.

Is George W Bush still alive in 2020?

Is Jessica Simpson still popular?

What technology that isn’t around in 2004 that is used in 2020?

Also what happened to Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Steve Irwin, Gary Coleman? What other celebrities perished between 2004 and 2020 that would be big shockers?

What are some political unknowns in 2004 that we should be aware of in 2020?

Are they still making SpongeBob?

Not so big surprise. I saw his speech when he won the election for senator in Illinois in the 2004 CNN election night. If CNN offered minutes to him, he is already an important political leader.

Yep he is still around. Rumors are that he voted for Biden this cycle.

She is still around, but she is not very popular/trendy these days. She did publish a memoir which was a NYT bestseller this year I guess.

I am literally typing on something kinda new. It’s a smartphone made by apple called an IPhone, it can do almost anything your 2004 computers can do and more.
4g was launched in 2009 and some places now have 5g.
Other interesting technologies that I will note are CRISPR (a gene editing technology but it’s newish)
And self-driving car prototypes (but they aren’t legal yet) I am missing a lot but yeah don’t worry technology has advanced dramatically recently.

Jackson died of a drug overdose, Irwin from a stingray, Coleman from a brain hemorrhage, and Houston was found dead in her bathtub after cocaine usage.
Prince, David Bowie, Chris Cornell, Carrie Fisher, Kate Spade, Steve Jobs, Sally Ride
all are dead.

In general terms, the neoliberal fiscal policies and globalization have caused the class divide to grow in this country and now there is a large number of angry lower-mid class workers who are easily manipulated by any charismatic populist (see: Trump)
Also don’t expect a lot of fiscal progress, but there will be a lot of social progress in the next 16 years.

Yes Spongebob is still airing.

Did the Constitutional Amendment banning same sex marriage end up passing?
No.
In fact, same-sex marriage rights have actually expanded dramatically since 2004.
By 2010 several New England States and Iowa fully allow same sex marriage with the West Coast states allowing civil unions.
2014 is when the dam really breaks and most states recognize same sex marriage completely, with only a few Great Plains and Southern holdouts.
And in 2015 the SCOTUS case Obergefell vs Hodges essentially requires all states to allow same sex marriage with equal rights as traditional marriage.

He is still around and kicking.
John Kerry was Secretary of State under Obama from 2013-2017.

Joe Biden has publicly announced plans to have Kerry hold a new position as the first US Climate Envoy.

No.
It flipped in 2008 and has not voted Republican in a presidential race since. It voted for Biden by 13% this time around.

Bush's margin in Virginia was 8.2%. Bush's national margin was 2.5%. Only a 5.7 difference. Maybe the democrats can win Virginia in the future.

- Did Batman movies ever come back or did Batman & Robin forever kill them?
- How is Paris Hilton doing?
- How is Britney Spears doing?
- Was the generation gap in 2004 a one-time thing or the beginning of a trend?
- Have Hispanics become majority-Republican yet?
- Did Bush get immigration reform enacted?
- Did Bush get an individual health insurance mandate enacted over Democratic cries of “a tax on the poor”? If so, were Obama and Biden leaders in the fight against it?
- Did Tom Delay become Speaker of the House?
- Are the Clintons still loved in Appalachia?
- Did No Child Left Behind make America a leader in education?
- Did Bush renew the Assault Weapons Ban?
- Is Social Security privatized?
- Has democracy spread throughout the Middle East? Are there statues of Cheney and Rumsfeld in Iraq?
