47 states + D.C. have voted so far, and Biden has still not been elected president... Roll Eyes
That shows how relatively close this election was.

Nah, it rather shows that the state with the biggest number of electoral votes still haven't voted.

If the Earth rotated clockwise we would probably not have an eventual winner yet, either.

This must be why Trump shares on PredictIt are rising again. Too bad for them no official authority granted any approval to the "dueling electors" so it amounts to some private citizen crackpots who signed a piece of paper saying Trump won.

Not really.

It was only close in the Electoral College.

In every other country on the planet, Biden would have easily won with his 7 million vote advantage.

And it's only close now, because CA is located on the west coast ...

I wouldn't say 306-232 is that close.

Trump only needed 130.000 votes more in 3 states, so yeah, it was quite close on the EC level ...

Realistically, he only needed 42,921 more votes in 3 states (GA/AZ/WI), so it was even closer than that.

Further evidence that these people don’t understand the Constitution, elections, or the country in general.

That's why I emphasized the adverb relatively. It was not a narrow victory, of course, but the electoral voting process reminds of how many pundits wrongly predicted it to be a landslide election in favor of Biden.

This will continue for years and years. After January 6, they'll claim a last-minute court case will overturn the electors in the critical states. After January 20, there will be a never-ending stream of lawsuits claiming that Biden's presidency is unlawful, and that we're just one court case away from overturning the election. Also, please donate to our legal fund.

Oregon officially in for Biden.

California will officially put Biden over the top in a little.

It's amazing how Trump keeps playing this game yet never (at least, not yet) cross the line into open insurrection which would get him arrested or exiled.

I'm still thinking it's a realistic possibility that at some point Trump really drinks his own Kool-Aid, takes his arguments to their logical conclusion, and tries to start a coup (or armed rebellion after he's out of office).

The delusion is just unbelievable. They weren’t kidding about “alternative facts;” they actually believe them. We have millions of people in this country who, for all intents and purposes, live in an alternative reality completely divorced from fact and objective, shared experience. It’s funny because as much as a lot of conservatives like to rail against “post-modernism,” this is about as post-modern as you can possibly get: the utter rejection of the existence of “truth.”

Does anybody know after how many states Obama surpassed the 270-vote mark back in 2008?

I read the article linked by that user and they are relying on an obscure interpretation of the Electoral Count Act in the event dueling electors are sent to Congress, but the most common interpretation is that the governor's electors take priority anyway in the event that Congress is deadlocked.

For a state whose motto literally says "Don't tell us what to do." they sure love telling other states what to do.

I have trouble understanding how the Republican electors in those states are actually "dueling" when they have zero official sanction whatsoever. In 1876 there were state officials taking opposite sides in the "dueling electors".

Exactly what I was thinking... where did this power come from?

(Well, it's not really "power", but you know what I mean)

Texas, a state that seceded over (ahem) “states’ rights,” REALLY seems to believe it should have absolute power over other states.

The irony is just too rich.

Same place the independent state legislature theory, ghost!Hugo Chavez theory, and original jurisdiction for fun and profit theory came from.

Texas openly feeling entitled to dominate other states via nationwide conservative politics goes back at least a decade and probably much, much longer.

Kept Texas in power, made lesser states squirm...
