The Democrats will have a centrist camp and a progressive camp, though the two will have overlap. The GOP is more of a mystery after the events of Wednesday.

Republicans will splinter into a Trumpist conspiracy-oriented wing (Trump family, MTG, Jordan, Gaetz, Gohmert) and a more moderate governing wing (Romney, Collins, Sasse, Hogan, Baker, Cheney, Kinzinger). Time will tell what happens from there.

I could picture the Democratic Party and a majority of Republican Party members jointing forces under the Whig Party or Liberal Party banner after 2024. On the other hand, nearly all Trump supporters and very conservative Republicans likely join forces under the Populist Party banner.

Eventually, as the de facto catch-all for ANY type of center right politics in our electoral system, the GOP will become more moderate.  However, it will likely take successive years of Democrats having enough power to enact legislation.

#4 is basically what happened under FDR. There was the New Deal Party, and the “New Deal but not as extreme” party.
