Any insight as to when we get the results of this case?

This should be the easiest 9-0 decision ever.

The issue is literally: Do you believe in democracy? Yes or no?

I am guessing that the Supreme Court rejects the case to avoid the embarrassment of some justices voting for fascism over democracy.

The sooner this happens the better.  It's now hanging over everybody's heads and the Court needs to address it and announce whatever they're going to announce ASAP.

Right now the entire country is teetering on the edge into authoritarianism.  The Court must put this embarrassment to rest sooner than later.

I mean, the electoral college votes Monday, so it pretty much has to be before then. If the Court was going to set it for oral argument this weekend, I imagine they’d pretty much have to announce that today.

Any update on when we get a ruling? This is becoming increasingly unnerving because of the dangerous precedent that's being set here. And the longer this sedition goes on, the more damage is done.
I would expect a ruling sometime today or tonight. Unanimous denial of leave to file suit.

As has been previously said in this thread, Justice Thomas has a long line of opinions where he states his belief that SCOTUS can never deny leave to file when the Court has exclusive jurisdiction. He's usually joined by Alito on those decisions. Unless the case is heard on the merits it will not be 9-0.

I do agree that the likely outcome is a per curiam denial of leave to file along with a Thomas dissent.

Frankly I'm shocked Loudermilk isn't in this clown show.

The states of New California and New Nevada have just filed an amicus brief with the United States Supreme Court in this case, and I’m not even joking.

20 more GOP Congressmen signed on, and Loudermilk was one of them.

This has descended into farce.  I'd say it reminded me of the Marx Brothers, but they were actually quite brilliant.

I guess we just make fun of them for four years unless they escalate things even further.

Isn't fraudulently filing in representation of a nonexistent client--given that shows this isn't some state-level movement--a federal offense?

That will go directly into the "circular file."

Tom Goldstein, founder of the widely followed SCOTUSblog.com, posted an editorial urging the Court to bring the hammer down on the Texas suit: https://www.scotusblog.com/2020/12/opinion-dont-just-deny-texas-original-action-decimate-it/.  Well worth reading, only five paragraphs.

At the very least it should be grounds for disbarrment.

It would be well within the powers of the House of Representatives to refuse to seat those members who have declared themselves in open insurrection against the U.S. government.  This just requires a majority vote of the House, which Democrats control.

And yes, all the AGs and those representatives who are lawyers should be disbarred.

Finally, I hope it would be possible for the Biden Justice Department to designate the Trump campaign as a domestic terrorist organization.

SCOTUS formally treating God or the devil (or Vishnu, or Amida Buddha, or Baron Samedi, or...) as nonexistent would be unconstitutional. Not so with New California and New Nevada.

Republican politicians aren’t actually afraid of Trump; they’re afraid of Trump supporters. Trump loyalists constitute at least half of the modern Republican Party membership and are a radicalized, extremist group out-of-touch with reality. They’re a Fascist mob who refuse to accept the results of an election wherein they don’t hold power. The more power over America slips from their hands, the more radicalized towards secession and domestic terrorism they become. It’s their way or the highway; and they’ll intimidate, punish, and terrorize even Republican officials who refuse to conform to their Fascist worldview.

In the eyes of these people, America belongs to them and them alone. They’ll tolerate liberals and minorities having enclaves within their country, but won’t tolerate anyone who isn’t a “true American” like them from exercising any authority over them. Republican officials know that Trump is a joke, but his followers are deadly serious and will likely threaten not only the careers, but the very lives of any who dare to challenge Trump and what he represents. For these people, challenging Trump is challenging “real America” and siding with the “pedophile globalists.” If you thought these people were insane and dangerous with Trump in office, just wait until he’s out of office and his sycophants in the media keep beating the lost cause drum, QAnon conspiracies of pedophilic murderous elites have stolen the election and the weaponized the government against Americans become even more widespread, and countless militias and lone individuals turn to domestic terrorism to exert pressure on public officials and intimidate their opposition into silence.
