New Hampshire and Maine 2nd CD are the most republican places of New England, a region which is a democratic stronghold in the modern elections.
Al Gore won all districts of Maine, but George W Bush won New Hampshire.
Donald Trump lost New Hampshire twice, but won Maine 2nd CD twice.

What is the difference of the population between New Hampshire and Maine 2nd CD?

The Republican base in New Hampshire is heavy on exurbanites from Boston, plus some rural summer house people. In recent years some working-class mill communities (see Coos County) have flipped, but the base is still more suburban than the Republican party in most states.

ME-02 is a very working class and rural district, with a lot of old mill towns, like Lewiston and Auburn, as well as isolated rural communities and a large "white ethnic" population descended from Quebecois immigrants. It's much poorer and more rural than the Republican electorate in New Hampshire, and resembles the Republican electorate outside of New England more than other states. It's a bit like the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania.

I understand. The realigment explains the difference between New Hampshire and Maine.
The realigment was not complete in 2000 and 2004. Bush did very well in many rich suburbs in the whole country in which McCain, Romney and Trump failed to repeat the performance. On the other hand, Gore and Kerry still won some white working class counties in the whole country.

If this trend continues, maybe, New Hampshire and the whole state of Maine will have similar results. Maine will not be more democratic than New Hampshire anymore.
