My read on John Dule is that he tries to craft a personality for himself by staking out particularly strong viewpoints, or particularly controversial viewpoints, and then sticking to them no matter what and harping on them every chance he gets.

I don't know whether he actually believes half the stuff he writes.  Sometimes I think he just enjoys playing devil's advocate.  But once he's put something in his Big Book of Takes, that's his opinion now and forever.

You can very much believe he is telling the truth based on his personal testimony of his private life.

Very hit and miss. Would probably be a good deal funnier if he wasn’t quite as obviously obsessed with how funny he thinks he is.

But I think he’s a decent guy at heart, as much as he tries to hide it.

FF. He tends to put considerable effort into his posts, when he is engaging in a debate or explaining his beliefs. He cites his sources and statistics where necessary, and he has a good sense of humor. I also appreciate that he's been an advocate for maintaining this forum as an open space for discussion, geared for people of divergent political ideologies.

I genuinely don't have an opinion. Sometimes he's funny, sometimes he's cringe. I tend to not really pay attention to his posts one way or the other, but I appreciate his effort.

A misguided one who truly epitomizes "the bubble" that area of America oft lambasted by the Media [in a "Man sticks it to man" fashion] and far-right.

Completely and utterly reactionary by nature, often conformingly anti-conformist [I get that the staying too long with The Bears can do that, but wow...], and like William Shatner's acting...comes off as overly serious despite being shrouded in jokes. Weird as it is, but he could stand to lighten up a bit.

Could go either way, but I'll go HP on this one as a balancer.

While Dule's gender issue is a bit difficult to overlook and I don't feel comfortable letting him go on a technicality, he could be a lot more damaging. He could be calling people like me pedophiles or consistently misgendering them, or saying it's insane not to discriminate against them.

This post from the same thread S019 linked where you claimed that trans people are mentally ill and that the DSM reclassifying it in 2013 was because of "the unreasonable demands of stupid people on the internet" or whatever.

In this case, someone told me to "GTFO back to the era when transgenderism was a mental illness." So I guess that means... 2013? Because that's when the DSM-5 reclassified it from a "disorder" to a "dysphoria." Now, let me be clear: Transgender people have the inalienable right to get gender reassignment surgery so long as they can pay for it and they can find a doctor willing to perform the operation. I am not saying that gender dysphoria is a mental illness because I want to take away people's rights. I'm saying it's a mental illness because, up until 2013, that was how it was classified. And while I'm no expert on psychology, I'm somewhat well-versed in how social movements pressure people into changing their beliefs for dubious reasons. Simply put, I don't think it was reclassified because of genuine scientific conviction. I think it was reclassified because, as Wikipedia says, they wanted to "de-stigmatize" the disorder (in other words, they caved to the unreasonable demands of stupid people on the internet).

Regardless, just because something is a mental illness doesn't mean it should be treated, or that someone should be prevented from making decisions because of it. Depressed people should be allowed to undergo peaceful euthanasia, transgender people should be allowed to get reassignment surgery, and those people who want to look like wax sculptures should be allowed to botox their faces to kingdom come. I genuinely don't care. I'm a principled libertarian and I believe in body autonomy. But the fact remains that a deep-seated desire to permanently alter one's body by removing functional organs is probably rooted in some sort of chemical or hormonal imbalance that we don't yet fully understand. If that take is too hot for you, then I suggest that you leave this site for greener pastures. I'm sure Tumblr would love to have you.

Haters be haters but part of the Atlas Club who have been around the blocks over the decades, Dule not only stands his own ground, but also overall a general supporter of Libertarian-Socialist concepts, including many of which I am a general sympathizer.
