I retook the Political Matrix for the first time since 2013, and I got +8.13 economic and -6.09 social; this represents me becoming significantly more extreme economically but not really changing socially over the intervening nine years, since the old values were something like +4 economic and -6 social. (I don't remember the exact values, unfortunately, and while I could probably find them digging around on Internet Archive I don't really feel like it).

This checks out -- I was generally moving left during the period 2011-2015, reaching probably my most moderate positioning in the summer of 2015, but have generally been getting much more economically conservative since roughly late 2019. (And I wasn't really that moderate before either, actually).

I do not see how anyone can score like above +7 or -7 on Economic axis. Reality should prevent that but oh well.

I'm not sure that my positions on many issues changed -- I can try taking the test as 'myself from 2014' and see how different the results would be and if I can still inhabit that headspace -- so much as this time around basically all the times I ticked the 'this issue is important to me' box were economic issues, while in 2014 it would've probably been an even mix of economic and social ones.

"Democratic Socialism"

I took the Detailed (153 question) Version of the quiz. I found it to be incredibly disappointing in almost every aspect. The poor grammar and structure of of the statements makes discerning what is being asked confusing and answering them a convoluted mix of guesswork to interoperate what the maker of the quiz is actually asking. Adding qualifiers to the statements (oftentimes, mostly, ect.) only serves to muddy the waters when answering them and the addition of an extra answer option in the form of "Partially Agree/Disagree" only serves to add an extra layer to that problem. I think that this quiz would benefit greatly from being run through a tool like Grammarly for more coherent statements, removing the unnecessary extra answer option, and formalizing some of the statements to be more definitive about their timeline and meaning.

Ideoshapes: https://www.ideoshapes.com/results.html?scores=-48,56,12,36,-15,-66,72,60&max=360,210,258,372,297,198,180,216&v=1.1

I like this quiz, it's pretty detailed and nuanced. I generally test more libertarian on these kinds of things, so there might be a bit of a house effect that drags you in a more conservative direction, but it could also be that my views have moved more in that direction lately.

I think of all the political tests/quizzes I've taken, a result of 70.9% being the lowest of any category is the most polarized of any of them. Normally, even for smaller quizzes like 8Values or 4 Axes, there's at least one category in the 50s and there's always been one or more in the 60s. I suppose that's just natural when taking a quiz that asks stuff like "Is genocide/slavery good?"

ISideWith Quiz

Parties:
1. Transhumanist: 80%
2. Peace and Freedom: 79%
3. Democratic: 75%
4. Green: 72%
5. Libertarian: 68%
6. Socialist: 67%
7. American Solidarity: 62%
8. Republican: 45%
9. Constitution: 39%

Themes:
  • Democratic Socialism vs. Capitalism: You side slightly towards “democratic socialism”, meaning you more often support an economic system which advocates collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. (Take this with a grain of salt, because despite that description I am, at least according to the scale it shows, to the right of the Democratic Party on the issue.)
  • Progressive vs. Traditional: You side moderately towards “progressive”, meaning you believe we should be a nation that values personal freedom, expression, and diversity.
  • Tender vs. Tough: You side moderately towards “tender”, meaning you believe in showing compassion, empathy, and rehabilitation for small-time criminals or those struggling with addiction.
  • Democracy vs. Meritocracy: You are a centrist on democracy and meritocracy issues.
  • Small Government vs. Big Government: You side slightly towards “small government”, meaning you more often believe the government is overly bureaucratic, inefficient, and wasteful.
  • Decentralization vs. Centralization: You are a centrist on decentralization and centralization issues.
  • Multilateralism vs. Unilateralism: You side slightly towards “multilateralism”, meaning you more often believe policy decisions should be made collectively with support of everyone who may be affected by the outcome of the decision.
  • Imperialism vs. Isolationism: You side moderately towards “imperialism”, meaning you believe we should proactively address potential issues before they turn into a serious and immediate threat.
  • Environmentalism vs. Anthropocentrism: You side moderately towards “environmentalism”, meaning you believe in sustainability, environmental protection, and improving the health of the environment.
  • Keynesian vs. Laissez-faire: You side slightly towards “keynesian”, meaning you more often believe the government should provide economic assistance to stabilize the economy
  • Privacy vs. Security: You are a centrist on privacy and security issues.
  • Globalization vs. Protectionism: You side strongly towards “globalization”, meaning you strongly believe globalization is necessary in order to increase the economic strength, prosperity, and standard of living of the nation.
  • Deregulation vs. Regulation: You side moderately towards “deregulation”, meaning you believe that government regulation stifles innovation and economic prosperity
  • Pacifism vs. Militarism: You side slightly towards “pacifism”, meaning you more often believe we should use non-violent diplomatic discussion to resolve conflicts. (This one actually surprises me)
  • Multiculturalism vs. Assimilation: You side moderately towards “multiculturalism”, meaning you believe we should celebrate and embrace cultural diversity.
  • Secular vs. Religious: You side moderately towards “secular”, meaning you support policies that reflect a separation of church and state.
  • Globalism vs. Nationalism: You side moderately towards “globalism”, meaning you support policies that prioritize the interests of the entire world above those of individual nations.
  • Politically correct vs. Politically incorrect: You side slightly towards “politically correct”, meaning you more often believe we should not use language or behavior which could offend, marginalize, or insult those who are disadvantaged or discriminated against.
  • Left wing vs. Right wing: You side slightly towards “left wing”, meaning you more often support policies that promote social and economic equality.
  • Collectivism vs. Individualism: You side slightly towards “collectivism”, meaning you more often believe policy should protect and support the best interests of all citizens. (I also find this one surprising)
  • Libertarian vs. Authoritarian: You side moderately towards “libertarian”, meaning you support policies that promote social and economic freedom.
