Why did North Carolina go for Trump even though Georgia went for Biden?

To put it very simply, Republicans only get around 65% of the white vote in NC so they don't have much ground to lose where Trump got 75% in Georgia in 2016 so there was a lot of room to fall, Georgia whites this year voted more like whites in Texas and NC, so they converged in terms of voting behaviour, the issue is Republicans need 70%+ of the white vote in Georgia to offset the 30% black vote share.

It's not really a huge difference anyways.  Trump won NC by like a point and Biden won GA by less than half a point.  It's a fairly negligible difference though the difference meant one flipped and the other didn't.

Both are clearly 2024 battleground states.

The result was also somewhat predictable if you consider the long term trajectory.  NC has been a little  allover the place, going for Obama in 2008, then Romney in 2012 and Trump in 2016 but electing a Dem governor.  On the other hand, GA has consistently and steadily trended Democratic and at an accelerating pace.  Stacey Abrams' efforts probably put Biden over the top there.  He literally owes her for those 16 electoral votes.

Trump beat Biden by 74,000 votes, which is the same amount that Obama beat Romney in Florida by, so I'd say the GOP days in NC are numbered.

Cooper only won by 4 and lockdowns did have an effect on voting. He was projected to have coattails and pull CUNNINGHAM threw and win by 10 that's the difference in the race right there. Cooper UNDERPERFORMED
