It's fixed. Sounds like someone from Capitol Police told them to leave.

I knew someone would say that. But the damage has been done already. They were there for a day, over 100 now have covid, you should see the pictures in there looks like a pre covid scene, it was an absolute covid breeding hotspot ground, and some interviewed soldiers were asked about covid precautions and they said basically none, packed in there like sardines, not much we could do. It was not even a still parking lot, it was an active parking lot, inhaling car fumes and one soldier almost got hit by a car. Other toilet and food issues that one can already imagine too. There needs to be an investigation, this wasn’t a no harm no foul situation.

It's been like that since they got there. We saw them cramped in the rotunda and cafeteria last week. Fact of the matter is, it's incredibly difficult to find places for them to rest safely between shifts. If it makes you feel any better, they do get to sleep in hotels off duty..

It’s obviously gotten worse since they went into a parking garage. Conditions are obviously way worse in a parking garage, I don’t have to explain that to you. It does not at all. The covid breeding grounds almost nullify that. In addition, if youve bothered to read other sources about the guard experiences over the past several weeks, you would have known that some late arrivals didnt even get hotel rooms, and were on those premises 24/7. There needs to be an investigation and accountability.

An active parking garage, even a designated corner of one, is not a "safe" place to rest. (it could be in like, a war zone, but this is obviously a very different situation) And when you consider the bureaucratic effort required to bring thousands of Guardsmen from different states to the Capitol, there really is no excuse to not have thought of places where they can take breaks.

Damn. Do you think they could have afforded better accomodations with the money they spent on those lobster dinners (which you supported?)

Well, it costs nothing to let them stay somewhere inside the vast Capitol Complex.

Ehh, it was probably a question of room. They would have been squished no matter what. And they get a comfy hotel room at the end of the day. Look my great granddad spent 300 days sleeping in the Philippine mud as a prisoner of war. His whole platoon died except for him and his biggest complaint was that the Red Cross made him pay for coffee when the area was liberated. These guys sign up for free college and healthcare, this is hardly the biggest sacrifice that somebody can make. Especially for the big old financial commitment we make on their behalf.

"They would have been squished no matter what"- yes deffo makes no difference at all whether it is in an active parking garage or a normal building. If we can do better for them, we do better. The people serving in active warzones in WW2 oftentimes did not have a better choice than you great grandad. Here there were obviously better options, as evidenced by letting them back in tonight. Do better. In addition, if youve bothered to read other sources about the guard experiences over the past several weeks, you would have known that some late arrivals didnt even get hotel rooms, and were on those premises 24/7. Also it is insulting to lump them all in with one intention of just joining for one shared reason. Everybody from AOC to Mike Lee is in agreement here, maybe just maybe we are the ones who are right.

If there's room for 535 members of Congress, their staff, visitors, support staff, and police to work, meet, spread out, and have space left over, there's room for a few hundred guardsmen to take a sedentary break.

You can't compare war time with domestic security duty. In war, it might be unavoidable for soldiers to experience certain "occupational hazards", but that doesn't mean they should be breathing in exhaust fumes in an underground garage with little to no toilet or hygiene facilities while deployed on security duty in what is essentially a vast office complex.

This is disheartening. I hope Biden makes a point to visit them and see to it personally that all their needs are taken care of. "Respect our troops" should stop being an empty jingoistic platitude and actually mean we take care of them.

So far this appears to have been an action taken by the Capitol Police alone. Has anyone heard any more about why this happened and who is responsible?

So Capitol Police, currently clashing with Democrats over their screwed-up Jan 6 security, also screw this up with terrible logistical planning.

Fox News blames Democrats.

Democrats make efforts to do what little they can to help.

Republicans do absolutely nothing.

And we're complaining that Democrats aren't doing enough because this is their fault.  Did I read that right?

It is still under investigation who exactly ordered them to move there:

Biden Calls National Guard Chief After Troops Briefly Ordered to Take Breaks in Garage

Quote
Inhofe said he made calls to Yogananda Pittman, the acting chief of the U.S. Capitol Police and to Gen. James McConville, the chief of staff of the Army. Inhofe's staff spent time talking to Guard members serving in D.C., according to the statement.

Inhofe said Pittman told him the Guard was never officially asked to leave the Capitol, but "multiple members of military leadership told me they were told yesterday by a member of uniformed Capitol Police that the Guard had to be out of the Capitol Visitor's Center," according to the statement.

"I know one thing -- whether it was confusion from this fog and friction environment or what -- the troops didn't move on their own," Inhofe said in the statement. "We are in the process of identifying who gave the order to the Guard, who deviated from the chain of command."

We’re used to such accomodations.

I didn’t notice a single cigarette, vape, or energy drink in these photographs. Clearly these Guardsmen aren’t being properly supplied with essential military supplies to conduct their mission.

Holy sh*t. Between this and Jan 6th, the Capitol Police is coming off like an absolute disaster. Someone needs to take a deep look into it.
