"Now, McCaskill's lead is six points and McCaskill's edge mirrors Nixon’s in the governor’s race.

She leads among women by 13%, and independent voters by 14%.

McCaskill leads big in St. Louis City, and has a 12% edge in St. Louis County......"

good news. How accurate have they been in the past?

I just turned MO Republican, but if this has a good track record, I might flip it back.

We have a good chance at winning MO, MT, OH, PA, and RI. I can't see us finding that 6th seat required to stop the VP from breaking ties.

TN and VA are our 6th and 7th best chances. Right now the Republicans are fairly strong favorites, but I expect we'll see much more movement in those races in the coming months.

I can't believe it! I'm very pleased about this.  I was despondent after a Zogby poll showing Talent leading by five points.  I think this will be a hard fought race but McCaskill can certainly claim victory.  I think her margins in rural Missouri will be stronger than a typical Democrat in the state, and she will obviously carry the urban centres.  Women will also help her, I don't think she will win by quite so large a margin though.  In fact I think the extent to which the GOP have taken root in Missouri she could win with less than 50% of the vote.  I now predict:

MCCASKILL 49%
TALENT 48%

More details from this poll:

McCaskill   49%
Talent        43%

"Among 800 likely voters polled last week, 49 percent supported state Auditor Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, in her quest to replace U.S. Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo. That compared to 43 percent who favored retaining Talent, who has been in office since 2003. The remaining 8 percent were undecided."
