If the government was actually compensating workers laid off due to COVID - like many of the sane Western countries - it is obviously more moral to have tens of millions of additional unemployed citizens than millions of additional dead citizens.

this is away from the topic at hand, but I don't see a problem with locking down the country for a month if you could find a way to pay the wages of businesses and employees that have to shutter for that month.
