I'm surprised the level of confidence is this high. 90% of Germans, according to a representative survey, express faith President-elect Joe Biden will do a good job. Only 4% think the opposite. 85% are convinced the Transatlantic relationship will improve, 13% say no change and 0% (ZERO!) say it will get worse. Joe Biden begins to repair Western alliances before he even gets started.

No surprise.  Be interesting though to see how German-Americans voted.  I am guessing Americans of German descent, Trump probably won, although I am guessing by around 10 points.  Off course Americans of German descent like other white Americans, biggest factor was not ancestry, but age, gender, education, and where they live.  College educated women of German descent, millennials of German descent, and those of German descent living in urban areas I am pretty sure went for Biden, although not anywhere near 90%.  By contrast white males without college degrees of German descent and whites living in rural areas of German descent probably went for Trump by huge margins.

At same time this makes sense.  Merkel is quite popular and she is the antithesis of Trump.  Likewise most Germans are very supportive of European Union and Biden supports EU while Trump wants to see it broken up.  Never mind people in Germany rightly worry about Russia so glad to have a president who will stand up to Putin, not be in his back pocket.  I am guessing the 10% who don't have faith in him are mostly AfD voters.

If Germany were a U.S. state, all its 114 electoral votes would go to Biden. Cheesy

Germans are smart and understand, that Biden can't do a bad job, when he is supervised by Majority Leader Cocaine Mitch.

Aside from the COVID pandemic, the U.S. election had been one of the most frequent topics in private conversations  for me during the last two weeks, even with people who normally aren't that interested in German politics, let alone foreign one. To my surprise, a few of these relatively apolitical German people even happened to watch Biden's victory speech.

That was great for me, because I could discuss politics with pretty everyone for a change. General gist is that 2020 is overall considered to be a pretty sh**tty year, with the outcome of the American election being one of the few gleams of light.

For instance, to quote my own mother: "I had never occupied myself with the American electoral system to that extent before, but was happy to find even specks of blue in Texas around cities like Dallas." Cheesy

My mother thinks that Kamala Harris is a "fiery young woman", while she believes that Biden sounds a bit like a Christian priest rather than a politician and that you also "notices his age", but after the last four years it's at least good to have someone again who makes sense when he starts talking.

If God actually existed, the Old Testament God would be a  mega HP considering that he basically acted just like Trump (which is why the two get so much blind followers)

Yeah, same here in Denmark. Wall-to-wall coverage of the election. Everybody talking about it. Pretty much everybody here hates Trump outside of the most delusional right wingers.

I've made the conscious decision to limit my political news intake since last year, but especially so since the summer as I've been focusing on finding a job and writing my thesis, but this has meant that some Europeans I know have surpassed me in political knowledge of states like Georgia and North Carolina. They come up to me in school or at work and just start talking about counties I've never heard of and always initiate conversations with me about what is happening. They make small talk at first but it's clear they really want to talk about the election and Trump, and constantly reference memes that I don't know and will send them to me.

But it's also funny how they seem totally okay talking to me about U.S. politics but when I make them discuss their country's politics, they seem super reluctant to let their true feelings be known (especially when we're in a group with people from their country), and seem surprised that sometimes I know more about their country's politics than they do.

You people seriously need to get hobbies outside of watching U.S politics like it's a TV series.

Yeah, but it's unlikely that Biden would get 90% of the vote, I mean if Germans were US citizens they would vote according to a more traditional right / left divide, yeah Trump is very unpopular among Germans but it doesn't mean that 90% of Germans are liberals / progressives, if they were US citizens and were voting on domestic issues rather than on the personnality of the candidates the divide would be closer to something like a 2 to 1 advantage for Biden rather than a 9 to 1 one.

Describe an AfD-"I have faith in Joe Biden" voter.

It's actually not that hard. Most people completely despise Trump not only for his policies (e.g. trade war hurting Germany's economy) but also for his arrogance, general stupidity, and fulfilling every negative stereotype the world holds of Americans. Hence it's not surprising  most AfD voters would casually prefer Biden merely as the anti-Trump.

Nationalists in one country rarely like nationalists in another country. You both may hate Muslims and immigrants but you hate each other as well, if mot more.

Yeah, France and Germany would vote like MA (D+30) / Great Britain would likely vote like CT (D+20) ; Italy would be the swing state and would vote like NH, it would have voted for Biden but it's probably the only big western country where you would have some competition between the two parties.

Spain would be interesting, it would almost certainly vote democrat but at the same time Vox is probably the only major European party which is ideologically close to the Republican Party.

The corallory to this valid point is that it also works in case of more pro-Trump nations like Russia.
