Maybe it’s because KY and WV were pretty much maxed out but OH wasn’t yet?

The increased turnout probably fell heavily on the Trump side, so Biden's margin could've been depleted without losing many Clinton voters.

Educated people leaving the region, causing the state to trend Republican and hemorrhage electoral votes. Ohio is fading into irrelevance and not a moment too soon. As my BFF Alben Barkley said, Dem support bottomed out in KY and WV with Hillary so they only had one natural direction to swing in 2020.

I think the other states just collapsed first for Democrats. The Ohio side was being boosted by presidential campaigns until more recently. In 2012, Romney got 63% in Marshall County WV, but only 52.5% in Monroe County OH; Trump got (as of right now) 74.2% and 76.3%.

Don't forget Pike County Ohio Sad

RIP.

Romney was such a horrible candidate for these areas though.

https://wfpl.org/in-elliott-county-ky-democrats-went-big-for-trump/

“I’m not saying he’s a godly man, but he’s more for godly things in my opinion,” said Michael Cassell, a 28-year-old from Elliott County who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 after voting for Obama in 2012. Cassell thinks Christians are under attack in America, and he sees in Trump a protector of his faith community.

Democratic nominee Joe Biden does still have some supporters in Elliott County. Auttie Brickey is an Elliott County resident in his 80s, and he cast his vote for Joe Biden before Election Day.
This should give a big hint.

Yeah generally this. It could also explain why OH trended right while IN trended left.

TBH it's a bit crazy to see some rural Appalachian counties trending toward Biden (in Pulaski county, KY for example Biden did 4 points better than Clinton, which means that the county trended 2 points left).

I guess that being a white male rather than a black one / white female helped him.

"On Election Day, Denvil Adkins went to the polls in Sandy Hook, the county seat in Elliott County to cast his vote in the presidential election. He wore a Trump 2020 face mask he had to turn inside-out because of rules against electioneering.

“I’m a registered Democrat,” explained Adkins, 71. “I voted for Donald J. Trump.”"

Every time the Democrats think they've "hit their floor" in a white rural area, they haven't.

Hillary was the first lady of Bill Clinton. She had WC appeal. Biden did better than Hillary in the states that mattered WOW COUNTIES WI, KENTON, MI, and Erie, PA

Those were the states that mattered not rural OH, Hillary lost the upper Midwest due to her SSM position that Bill Clinton didnot subscribe to when he signed Defense of Marriage Act

Turning a mask inside out? That's... not brilliant. They should have given him a piece of tape or something to put over the logo.
