I hereby predict that Donald Trump will hold a rally in the state of Georgia sometime in December.  This rally will double as a campaign event for the Republican senators there, and as the kickoff for Trump 2024.  Assuming he manages to stay out of prison, he will spend the next four years running for President again, all the while complaining about how the 2020 election was stolen from him.

Yeah, that's very plausible. I always felt he would have immediately run for 2020 in case 2016 went the other way. He's addicted to his rallies because they give him the attention and confirmation he desperately needs. The guy is a sociopath.

I just hope the media will stop covering him, or at least reduce it. The public needs to move on without hearing nonsense from this clown.

I really hope not.

This country will never get over this partisan era until Trump is gone.

I think he will run in 2024. I think Trump running in 2024 will mostly clear the field but I think people like Larry Hogan and even maybe Mitt Romney will run.

I think in 2028 there will be a big time GOP field. I think DeSantis, Haley, Pence, Hawley, Ted Cruz, Pompeo and maybe even Rubio run.

It was bad when Obama was in office too. It's not going away. This country is way too polarized.

It's funny, around this time in 2016, how uncertain the future looked when Trump first got elected and how uncertain it still looks now that he lost. The guy is just too much of a volatile enigma, and for that reason, and many others, he never should have been able to become President.

I really hope not.

Whose fault was that one though? You can't make an equivalency between concerns about dijon mustard and tan suits to corruption and dereliction of duty.

Agreed. It is time to close on the book that has been the Trump Presidency. America needs to heal and move on.

Trump is merely a symptom--him going away will have zero effect on polarization.

My nightmare scenario is that Trump emerges from inevitable SDNY investigations bruised and badly embittered but ultimately unpunished, and runs another 2016-style campaign that results in another narrow victory. He then goes on a revenge bender, delivering a coup de grace to the institutions he previously spent four years decimating. Hopefully the specter of another Trump presidency keeps establishment Dems from selling out to Wall Street during the Biden years, and keeps progressives and activists engaged during 2022 and 2024.

Obama started it. He made 0 attempt to work with the other side. His quote "I won."

Trump is broke, deep in debt, and will have indictments up to wazoo the next four years, so the only thing he can do is run around the country soaking as much money from the drooling inbreds that support him.

However, he won't have the government resources that he utilized the last four years and vendors will demand cash up front.

He’s ashamed of being such a pathetic loser. It will take some time before he’s comfortable being on camera and in public again. He was probably dragged against his will to the wreath-laying at Arlington.

Maybe this helps Democrats hold the House and gain the senate in 2022. If Trump starts running now, Democrats can still run on stopping Trump.

Hot take: No, it won't. 2016 and 2020 prove it wrong, unfortunately. The reason Dems did so well in 2018 is because they mainly focused on the so called kitchentable issues. People mostly care about stuff that directly affects their lives, not Trump's ridiculous Twitter wars or him bribing a foreign govt. That's why Dems didn't replicate or expand the gains from 2018 this year. Trump overshadowed the election cycle and these issues got lost in the public discourse or were just sidenotes.

All that said, I wouldn't be surprised. But for the good of the country, I hope he doesn't. He's just a symptom of polarization and not the cause, it in order for any healing to happen, he needs to go away. Mr. Trump also needs to face legal consequences for the crimes he committed in office and before.

Republicans did everything possible to heighten the polarization. Trump intensified it even more. Polarization of the electorate comes to an end only when it becomes futility. That is up to the American people.

Both sides did. No one side owns polarization. Come on now.
