I don't think it would have been too different honestly. Maybe low double digits for Trump instead of mid-high double digits. Maybe the state votes slightly left of Missouri instead of slightly right. But it's not like Pete even represented all of Indiana. St. Joseph County might get a bigger swing, but that would probably be the most drastic difference.

Like Bernie, he’d have lost in hindsight and probably by a larger margin than Bernie tbh.  This wasn’t his year and while I think he has a bright future in Democratic politics, he may just not be someone who can win a Presidential election with the current political/demographics being what they are.  

A candidate like Mayor Pete currently needs suburbanites plus one of AA or Hispanic voters as their base to win the nomination.  Obama did it, but Pete only has suburbanites atm.  That’s just not enough.  He could be a guy you see in a lot of cabinets, but I doubt he’s a future President.

Pete is formidable, but wasn't ready for 2020. Still too young and still too many gay-sceptics out there.

He needs a period where he gains national recognition and can create ties to the black community and hispanics. He'll be properly ready about a decade from now, and when he is...watch out! There's no better political communicator out there right now.
