He won Indiana because he won the election by 7-8%

Bill didn't manage despite an 8-9 point win in '96.

Meanwhile Missouri actually had a record of voting for the winner each time sans 1956.

Obama campaigned incredibly well in the rust belt, in both 2008 and 2012.

Combine that with a national environment where Republicans were loathed and blamed for the recession, and it puts Obama over the top in states like Indiana and Ohio.

And yet he still lost "The Nation's Bellwether" to McCain.
