Looks like Gade is running for office again. Perhaps for Governor, or another statewide office in 2021?

Lol why

Glenn Youngkin? Youngkin?

Is he related to Young Kim? If so he'd lose Buchanan County by as much as George W. Bush did in 2000 imo

Things can go very badly very fast in midterms. Virginia swung 23 points Republican between 2008 and 2009. Kirk Cox is at least narrowly favored against everyone but The Macker.

Virginia is a fundamentally more Democratic state than it was in 2009. It is only half-exaggerating to say that it might as well be California at this point.

You may not know him well, but Lief is one of the oldest and most skilled trolls on this site.

My #elastic #swingy friends in McLean would even vote for a QAnon candidate since 2021/2022 will be a B I D E N  M I D T E R M, but they were wondering if Youngkin was related to YOUNG KIM (whom they hate with a burning passion), so yeah... not a good sign.

The Republican candidates are so boring. Like, three of them are running on the same message, and Amanda Chase is... well, Amanda Chase.

Jill Vogel should’ve ran.

Irish-American Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-Fairfax) did a straw poll of 700 Northern Virginia Democratic Party members on St. Patrick’s Day, asking their choice for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general. Connolly claimed their straw poll “has been often an indicator of ultimate results in both the Democratic primary and the general election.” Here’s the results:

Governor
Terry McAuliffe 40%
Jennifer McClellan 30%
Jennifer Carroll Foy 20%
Lee Carter 6%
Justin Fairfax 4%

Lieutenant Governor
Sam Rasoul 33%
Elizabeth Guzman 18%
Sean Perryman 15%
Hala Ayala 14%
Andria McClellan 14%
Mark Levine 8%
Xavier Warren 2%
Paul Goldman 1%

Attorney General
Mark Herring 75%
Jay Jones 25%

In other news, Amanda Chase attacked Jennifer McClellan for being the vice chairman of the Legislative Caucus. Says she is “all for diversity but we cannot continue...”

Glenn Youngkin is coming under fire for sending out canvassers who misleadingly identify themselves as working on behalf of the VA GOP, but in reality work for the Youngkin campaign. In a video, a canvasser asks a voter to provide personal information by filling out a form, but the actual state party hasn’t even deployed canvassers yet. A local GOP official has called for an investigation.

You know it's a boring race when there's long drawn-out arguments over whether the Democrat will win by 5% or 10%

Literally everyone on this site already knows this race is Likely / Safe D - you don't really need to make the same point ten times.

Yes but it gets even more boring when we talk about how boring it is.

True, it won't be 5/6 and it's not 2017 anymore. Virginia has become far bluer!

Not really, no? You could say the same thing for, say, Georgia, but in terms of political preferences, the VA of 2017 isn't all that different from the VA of 2021.

Anyway, my current prediction:

McAuliffe 53.5%
Republican* 45.9%
Other 0.6%

*I don't expect it to be Chase.

Hope I'm not speaking too soon, but maybe the GOP doesn't always go for the craziest candidate.

I know Youngkin isn't exactly Charlie Baker, but he's not a raving lunatic like Chase.

Chase may still win, but if she loses, it will be because a. she's a woman b. ran an absolutely terrible campaign filled with gaffes.

If Youngkin is winning 1st round preferences, he's got this.  He's almost surely going to gain votes in the reallocations, particularly with Snyder in 3rd.

Hopefully Chase runs as a independent.

Why do you care lmfao? TMac is Safe anyway.

Anyway... this is exactly how Marjorie Taylor Greene would go down in flames if she decides to run statewide. You can be as "Trumpy" as you wish, but if you have an XX chromosome and/or severely lack charisma, you're out.

Good point, for a second I forgot a lot of Trumpism requires being a male to work.

Exactly! Donna Trump wouldn't even have cracked 10% in 2016.

Glenn Youngkim's general election campaign can be summarized beforehand as "reeeeeeee cancel culture" / "'wokism' bad", and I, as a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia, can assure you that nobody will care.

Snyder is a state representative in VA Beach and should have had the plurality here if he was to win. Youngkin wins no matter what.

You're confusing Snyder with Miyares.

^Not to mention, Republicans are looking to defend Kirk Cox's HD 66 (he's retiring), which voted for Biden by approximately 10 points. Granted, that district is quite less blue downballot but still gonna be a tough one to hold.

However, there's redistricting, which may or may not change the HoD landscape depending on whether or not the new maps are in place by the time of the election.

Eh, it’s not like a different Republican would better handle the abortion issue. But that’s still insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The national GOP is viewed very negatively in Virginia and that sentiment is very good at delivering Democratic victories in this state. Nothing else truly matters.
