terry mcauliffe has already ruled out  a Biden administration post. He is running for sure.

I was going to ask you if you heard rumors about him on the ground. If I was on his team I would no doubt be telling him to run. As a republican, I'm not thrilled because I know what it means for our chances in the race. But clearly he should run.

He is very strongly likely to run.

My impression of the candidates are:

McAuliffe: Very likely to win unless he just gets lazy.

Fairfax: He could well lose statewide and it would depend on who the GOP Nominates.

Jennifer Carrol Foy: Reasonably strong but has a chance of being overrated.

Jennifer McClellan: Wont be as large of a factor in the primary as you would think

Can you elaborate on Foy and McClellan, I don’t know much about em

Why I’m stupid ? Politically extreme / very ideological candidates - Jealous / Kobach / Gillum - don’t have a particularly strong electoral record in gubernatorial races.

Virginia needs to get with the times and let Governors run for two terms.

He's a memelord one step above Joshua Collins or Aaron Coleman, and he's going to get 10-15% in the primary max if he runs.

If he gets the nomination somehow, yeah, he loses. But he's not getting the nomination.

I think jdb was referring to Carter thinking he had a chance of winning, not your comment

Lee Carter wouldn't win the primary, but if he won the primary somehow. This race would still be Tilt D or more.

Yeah, I'm sure the VAGOP will put up a sensible moderate who wins back NOVA. Come on now, it's Virginia, the Democrat is favored off the bat, no matter who it is.

Almost certain it will be TMac though.

It brings me no pleasure to note that Carter is dating the chair of Rose Caucus. Good dude who I will support if he runs, but probably not getting the most strategic advice here.

Sure, VA democratic voters are establishment friendly so it's unlikely that he will get the nomination but you can't totally rule out this possibility either especially if the field is split between numerous candidates.

Lmao, Carter won't be nominated, and if so, he would be a disaster.

If T-Mac stays out, I hope Jennifer Carrol Foy gets the nomination. She's the most intersting candidate. If T-Mac jumps in, I'd like her to run for the second spot with T-Macs help in exchange for his support four years later.

That's probably the best strategy, and yeah - it's really time for Virginia to move to two-term Governors. Otherwise there's just going to be this constant cycle of musical chairs Cleveland-ing.

Carter gets into arguments with randos on Twitter and sics his followers on them. It’s so embarrassing for a state legislator to act like that.

For those of you without NY Times access I will post part of the article here.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/24/us/politics/virginia-democrats-governor.html

Quote
Mr. Biden’s victory was powered by suburban voters, especially women like Ms. White, who were motivated during the primary and the general election by what they perceived as the existential threat of a second term for the president. Without Mr. Trump on the ballot, Ms. White and other liberal suburban women are looking to see the Democratic Party put forward more candidates that look like them — and they are not interested in waiting much longer.

Fairfax County, which includes Ms. White’s hometown, Annandale, has in one generation transformed from a place that George W. Bush carried in the 2000 presidential election to one of the nation’s most reliable Democratic strongholds. Fairfax gave 70 percent of its vote to Mr. Biden, a larger percentage than the party’s traditional battleground state strongholds in Milwaukee County, Wis., or Wayne County, Mich., which includes Detroit.

I will still support the safe choice. Terry Mcauliffe

Looks like Gade is running for office again. Perhaps for Governor, or another statewide office in 2021?
