Let us say that Dukakis could have held onto his 23 point lead and is elected president in 1988. The Republicans nominate Bob Dole who then unexpectedly chooses Alexander Haig for the Vice-Presidency. Who wins this battle?

Does the economy still fall into recession?  If so, Dole wins.

I'm going to have a little fun and predict a strong showing by Perot:

Depends on the economic status and how the Gulf War turns out.

What Gulf War?

In 1990, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. Would President Dukakis have taken the same action as President Bush did? I assume he would've gone to the UN Security Council and sent troops over to defend Saudi Arabia, but would Operation Desert Storm have been initiated?

With a strong economy, as well as Operation Desert Storm going along the same way it did in real life:

Dukakis/ Bentsen - 310
Dole/ Haig            - 224
Perot/ Stockdale  - 4
