Yep when it's garbage in, garbage out, "even if you cut the margin in half it still looks good for the challenger" doesn't work.

Cooper ran away from Gov race but Cunningham underperformed. Dems were told by polls that since Cooper won Cunningham had it in the bag

Right now Cooper is up 4.5 percentage points. A solid, respectable performance in a swing state such as North Carolina, but he underperformed nearly all expectations (especially as a scandal free incumbent).
