I thought of this scenario the other day. So Marie Newman wins IL-03 this year. The district remains almost exactly the same after redistricting and it’s D PVI only goes down by one. Former congressman Dan Lipinski decides to try and take his old seat back, running under the American Solidarity Party. The Illinois GOP sense an opportunity and decided to endorse Lipinski’s bid. Could Lipinski take his seat back in a Biden midterm?

Uh this would be fascinating. It won't happen however.
I think Marie Newman would narrowly win, but my opinion may change after seeing the actual results of this year.

No matter how many times a Democrat may vote with them, the Republican Party isn't going to offer their ballot line to a Democrat.

But Dan Lipinski is not a Democrat anymore in this scenario it seems.

Very interesting scenario Falterin, you never disappoint

Now...hmmmm. I'd say Newman wins because of partisanship and confusion as to what American Solidarity is.

I doubt that Lipinski would care much for ASP, but perhaps Adlai Stevenson III's Illinois Solidarity Party would be appealing to him as a representative of the old "white ethnic" coalitions and in particular the Polish community (which the naming leaned into by referring to the Polish Solidarity movement). Newman is far from a LaRouchite, of course, and her primary victory is proof of the death of that older style of politicking, so I don't see him winning regardless.

I've heard the ASP has attempted to reach out to Lipinski and he's taken the idea well but I doubt he'd switch.
