Polls from the last month have:

Primary:
Angelides beats Westly 38.2-34

General:
Westly beats Arnold by 43.5-41
Arnold beats Angelides 43.5-42

The primary is on satan day (6/6/6).

I like Westly more than Angelides, but I think either one could top Arnold in the general as long as they don't make any stupid mistakes during their campaign.

Westly is the obviously stronger candidate.

I think that Arnold would likely beat Angelides, who although is strong among core Democratic groups, such as the public employee unions, is way too easy to paint as a tax and spender, among other things.

Westly v. Arnold is a toss-up at this point.

Arnold has improved his position a lot in the past few months, in general, and California has a nasty habit of re-electing governors with so-so or even bad approval ratings.

We'll see.  Lots of time left.

I think a lot of the problem with Angelides is the fact that, policy wise, he reminds a lot of people of Gray Davis. That's something that any Democratic candidate for California governor should avoid.

What's interesting is how discussion on this forum of this highly competive race in the nation's biggest state has been neglected in favor of not very close races in NY, PA, and elsewhere.

I'm still undecided on the primary.

I don't really know the candidates that well, but I'd  probably vote for Westly since Angelides was primarily a developer. Always a big turnoff for me.

Steve Westly - 48%
Others - 2%

Angelides will win the primary by 6-8%.

If I was a California voter, I'm not sure who I'd vote for. I liked both candidates about equally in the debate I saw.
