I strongly believe South Carolina does not have one. We have three strong centers of commerce/industry in Charleston, Greenville, and Columbia, with Charlotte burbs and Myrtle Beach fast growing up to compete with them. Trying to pin point any one of these regions and the absolute supreme metro area would be disingenuous.

I'd argue Boston for New Hampshire.

This seems like a silly exercise for states like Florida, California or Texas....and really any other one, too.  There are parts of New York where Buffalo or Rochester clearly dominates over NYC, and places in Mississippi where NOLA or Memphis are more relevant than Jackson.

Very much this. Even in smaller states like Nevada there’s a huge disconnect between Reno and Las Vegas. There are some states where the answer is obvious, Boston for Mass, Seattle for Washington, Phoenix for Arizona, etc. But states like Ohio, South Carolina, Montana have no good answer
