Missouri Senator Thomas Eagleton runs for President in 1972 and wins the Democratic nomination in a contested convention.

He faces the incumbent, Gerald Ford in the general election, after Ford defeats Ronald Reagan in the Republican primaries.

Who is Eagleton's running mate?

Who wins the general election?

Eagleton was thoroughly disgraced after 1972.  His problems with alcohol would have come out as would have been the fact that he was the source of the "amnesty, abortion, and acid" comment about McGovern.  He wouldn't have gotten nominated under any scenario I can imagine.  And he'd have been destroyed if he had somehow pulled that off.
