Shocking, a state where Republicans need to win 75% of the white vote to win, they find white voters that support him. Quality analysis, Ms. Plott.

UGH. I hate these kinds of articles. These aren't just Georgia suburbanites, they're Georgia Republicans. I expect this kind of garbage from Politico, not the highly esteemed (lol) New York Times.

Edit, a thought that came to mind: You don't really see these kinds of articles from local or Southern based national (CNN for example) media. I wonder if some of this might come from a fundamental misunderstanding of the South from non-Southern media/reporters. Middle age (especially Georgia native) white women in suburban Atlanta supporting Trump should not be big news. Heck, Loeffler is one of them and she's evidently more conservative than Genghis Khan.

"The decision was a no-brainer. “The riots, the push to defund the police — that’s not the direction our country needs to go,” Ms. Pontius, 48, said. “I feel like the Democratic Party is continually trying to come up with ways to divide us.”"

"But Ms. Newman, 51, who lives in the suburbs and works at a law firm in midtown Atlanta, also thinks Mr. Biden’s personal views are irrelevant — that a vote for Mr. Biden is in fact a vote for his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, as well as for progressives in the Democratic Party like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who have pushed for policies like the Green New Deal. “I don’t think Joe Biden has an opinion until somebody tells him what it is,” she said."

"Ms. Mullee said she used to exercise in the state park surrounding the monument, but no longer feels comfortable doing so. (As for the monument itself, she said she did not support efforts to “take down history.”) She is voting for Mr. Trump in part, she said, because she feels the left has stoked division in cities like hers and beyond."

Quote
Ms. Newman said she’s been put off by Mr. Trump at multiple moments in the past four years, calling him at times “unpresidential” and comparing him to “a 2-year-old pitching a fit in a candy store.” But she said she feared how “radical” and “crazy” the Democrats had become.

This line of thinking is so insane. How are you going to completely overlook the awful BS Trump has done the past four years and then claim the Democrats are too radical? Stable genius logic at work right there.

It seems like the voters they interviewed aren't really swing voters. I can find 5 Trump supporters in NYC, but it doesn't mean NYC will go to Trump.

Quote
Mr. Trump led Mr. Biden among college-educated white voters by 12 percentage points (though that is a significant contraction from 2016, when Mr. Trump won the same group by 20 percentage points).

An 8 point shift to Biden from this group is "good for Trump" somehow...

I have never seen a newspaper so obviously desperate for the approval of a political party as the New York Times is for the approval of Republicans.

why are they asking what republicans think of Trump. Also in GA, whites vote almost 75% for GOP and I expect it to be not too different in GA suburbs

What if all suburbs come home?

What can they get with Biden?
High taxes, high unemployment, depression.

Gwinnett is the poorest, most diverse of Atlanta's northern suburbs.

Also, believe it or not, some people are smart enough to understand that what you are saying is complete BS. Taxes will not be raised on anyone except people more than rich enough to afford it, and unemployment and depression are already here big time after Trump wrecked Obama’s economy.

They also understand that the interests of society as a whole matter as much or more than their own narrow self-interests, and that when society and the world are better off, they benefit too. (Example: You own a business, but your employees aren’t productive because they are working three jobs to make ends meet and don’t have adequate healthcare, and nobody can afford to buy your products.) They might even want the planet to be inhabitable for their children, too.

And believe it or not, a lot of women, gay people, and minorities also live in the suburbs — it’s not 1950 anymore — and they would probably strongly disagree that the GOP platform (such as it exists anymore beyond “Heil Der Fuhrer”) is in their interests.

It's actually not that hard to find Trump'16 supporters that are voting Biden this time around in the Atlanta exurbs (they can interview me or several of my neighbors lol). It's true most Trump'16 voters still support Trump. The issue is that the 5-10% that don't can swing an election.

Is the point here that she's the only Black woman in the photo?  And that the three White women featured most prominently look like they're attending the protest just for the Instagram likes?  Cheesy
