Hot take: Virginia trends right this year, although obviously it swings left.

Doubt it. Virginia was only 2 points to the left of the nation in 2016. I suspect it will be a bit more than that this year.

Why do so many think VA will trend right this year?

Like I think a lot of state trends will be meaningless. Like Missouri has a 99.9999999% chance it will trend left relative to country but that is obviously meaningless.

But why are so many gun ho that VA will trend right?

Huh, I hadn't remembered it was as close as it was in 2016. I'd remembered Hillary winning it by 7 or 8. Just goes to show what an underwhelming VP pick Tim Kaine was, I guess.
