What would be your takes if Dewey indeed upset Truman and won the 1948 election for the 1952 election. Does he cruise to reelection, or is it a tough race? I'm sure Korea wouldn't have been much different than under Truman.

If Korea goes as badly for Dewey as it did for Truman then he'd have a rough time.

It was actually Truman who upset Dewey in 1948!

But going with this, I do think that Dewey would have a tough time getting re-elected because the public was not a fan of how Korea was going in 1952 and you’re probably right that it wouldn’t have been too different under Dewey. In hindsight, was probably best for the GOP that Dewey lost so they could run Eisenhower in 1952. If they hadn’t, a Democrat like Stevenson or maybe even Truman pulling a Cleveland style comeback could have won in 1952. Or maybe even Ike runs as a Democrat!

I can see Ike running as a Democrat and winning in a landslide.

Alters a lot of history there too as Nixon wouldn't be in a VP spot and it would be interesting who Eisenhower would go with for his VP in 1952.

Would Estes Kefauver be the 1952 Democratic nominee?

President Thomas Dewey (R-NY) / Vice President Earl Warren (R-CA)
Governor Adlai Stevenson (D-IL) / Senator John Sparkman (D-AL) ✓

Eisenhower doesn't run. Both candidates are internationalist moderates.
