In theory, yes. Will it happen? No. Do you have 38 state bodies signing on?

There are pros and cons, with cons slightly outweighing the pros. With games being played with the court it would be better if the people had a direct say in who is chosen for such a decisive position. On the other hand, the influence of money would create incredibly divisive races and potential justices would feel compelled to give guarantees on how they'd rule. But then again the current process is already heavily politicized. I vote yes because it couldn't be worse than what we already have and electing by circuit with strict rules on campaign finance would probably be slightly better.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and a complete narcissistic moron."

No!

They should be appointed by the President and then unanimously confirmed by the court. Take partisanship out of the picture almost entirely.

Any Court with judicial review is already decidedly partisan, so yes, the justices should be elected and also subject to recall.

If the Supreme Court did not have the ability to strike down legislation I would be mostly fine with the current arrangement (although I also think the House should vote to confirm nominees in this situation)

no, no way, absolutely not, no !@#$ way

Because the history of voters electing/recalling judges/prosecutors has been so great. The ads write themselves: do you want a judge who sentenced X to only 20 years and who committed a murder when he got out of jail? Or wipe out criminal cases, and you get analogous ads against anybody who has ever been on the "wrong" side of some hot button issue.

Absolutely not. They should be appointed for 12 years though rather than lifetime. With no option for reappointment.

Also don't like the concept for electing judges to State Supreme Courts, even if formally non-partisan.

No but there should be a mandatory retirement age and clear guidelines around replacement.  Either the sitting President gets to nominate and Senate has to give a hearing/vote OR there is an exception during an election year.  What Mitch and the Republicans did to Merrick Garland is 900% worse than what they whined about happening to Frat Boy Brett.

No, that’s a terrible idea.
Electing justices would be insane and would actually make it easier for insane populists to screw up the system.

We should have judicial reform, but this is the equivalent of trying to fix a broken window by burning the entire house down.

No, but they should at least have some experience as a judge first.
