It is all riding on you guys:

The rise of Gen Z could foretell the fall of Trumpism
Deeply committed to diversity, social justice and combating climate change, the youngest voters could be the engine that drives a new GOP.

Quote
The evidence all points in one direction: Americans born after 1996, known as Generation Z, could doom not only Trumpism but conservatism as the country currently knows it.

Members of Generation Z who are of voting age — 18- to 23-year-olds — want more government solutions. They rank climate change, racism and economic inequality consistently in their top issues, according to polls, and they participated in greater numbers during their first midterm (in 2018) than previous generations did theirs.

As Republicans espouse “family values” and “religious liberty,” data finds that Generation Z, also known as Zoomers, are less likely than older Americans to be a member of a religious group — 4 in 10 don’t affiliate — and appear to care more about systemic racism and an equitable future than upholding traditional nuclear family structures, based on polling of their policy priorities.

To members of Generation Z, who have come of voting age in the past five years, President Donald Trump and Republicanism are one and the same. And most pollsters and experts on voting behavior agree that patterns are developed early — how a person votes in their early years, and the impressions they form from high school into young adulthood, stick with them in one form or another for decades.

Conservatism isn't going anywhere because it's always defined in relation to the median, same as liberalism. 2020 conservatives are obviously much more "liberal" than 1940 conservatives, but they are conservatives all the same

Conservatism will never die.

You can't kill an ideology.

Ideologies live on.

Progressivism isn't dead, so why would conservatism die.

Does Tomi Lahren, Charlie Kirk, Brandon Tatum ring a bell? Those three are the future of the GOP post-Trump.

They better not be if the GOP doesn't want to be locked out of Congress and the presidency for decades.

Brandon Tatum could be viable.

Tatum is a former cop, he is a Black man, Black men vote GOP more than Black women, so he is someone to watch

I was canvassing the other day for a state legislative candidate and one thing that kept happening was I'd get to the house and see Republican signs in the yard, think I might have the wrong house, look at the roll and the targeted voter was like 18-20 years old.

I was leaving fliers for a Democratic college student, while his parents the homeowners were voting Republican.

Also, sometimes it would be an older woman, which seemed to imply she was a Democrat but her husband was Republican.

I'm not sure this particular claim is true. On social issues it's definitely true, but I don't think 1940 conservatives were nearly as vicious in their attacks on government regulation as the conservatives of today.

How about we end the first and start nominating more humane, intelligent, leadership-qualified candidates for the 2nd.

Their needs to be a greater emphasis on education, opportunity and entrepreneurship out of Republicans going forward.  They also have got to come up with something tangible and realistic on health care and climate or they will just end up surrendering those issues to the Democrats, because those are the two biggest road blocks to the GOP at this point.

Hate to break it to you but Trump already did that. Most countries want nothing to do with us now.

Weren't there lots of this kind of "conservatism is dead" articles in like 2008? I think the same will happen here and everyone will wonder what happened in 2022.

OK, and? Why should I care about some international dick-waving contest? I care more about whether kids can eat and cancer patients don't go bankrupt.

Anyway the trillions America decided to piss away on the military rather than investing in America already did that. Like the USSR and Roman Empire, it was the beginning of the end. Only instead of expanding the empire in Gaul, our hard-earned money went to dozens of carriers we'll never need and paid STD-spreading Marine vacations in Japan. Oh, and don't forget blowing up the occasional hospital and massacring an entire wedding family.

That's Trump's goal. If he's reelected, a Boomer will do that.

I wish.

There are few conservatives among Gen Z, yes. But Gen Z doesn't seem particularly radical to me. It makes sense why they wouldn't be; they've become politically aware in an era where it's easier than ever for the ruling class (who are increasingly realizing that Obamaesque neoliberalism is best for them long-term) to manufacture consent. People think watching YouTube videos without doing any critical thinking or research of their own is enough to form a coherent worldview, and we have many Dunning-Kruger effects as a result.

The Zoomer generation does seem pretty liberal.

Frankly, I don't know why anyone who came of age after 1990 is a conservative, as we've only had successful Democratic presidents and failed Republican ones since then.

2008 is the 1968 to 2020's 1980.

It is dead. Republicans aren't a conservative party they are an Anti-Liberal party. The party ideology is being against liberal ideas and values. That isn't conservatism.

The Republican party has turned into the political party equivalent of a junkie.

Embracing Trumpism was like experimenting with heroin.  Feels great for a brief instant but ultimately sends you spiraling into a self-destructive tailspin which leads to self destruction.

This is somewhat different because 2008 was when most of the Millennial generation was finally able to vote, and conventional wisdom is that people get more conservative as they age - Gen X did. But that hasn't happened with Millennials. Millennials are now the age where Gen X made the "switch" - but they've stated consistently Democratic.
