Lincoln! It has been a wonderful six months as a citizen of the finest region in Atlasia, and as I look back on the journey I’ve made from uninformed voter to House Speaker, I remain grateful for the support you fellow citizens have showed me in my variously successful and unsuccessful campaigns. And so I am coming before you all today to announce that I will be seeking election to the Senate to serve this great region and its even greater people as best as I can.
Every citizen in Lincoln deserves a voice that matters; their votes and their opinions ought to be worth just the same regardless of whether they live in a swing region or a safe one. It is my hope that my record as a principled and pragmatic public servant can convince you all, liberals and moderates and conservatives alike, that I can be a voice for you all as a Senator for this region. It takes work to to find solutions to our nation’s problems in the face of the long political odds and challenges that come with serving in a fractious legislative chamber. But long odds and political headwinds didn’t deter me during my run for Council, they didn’t deter me in June, and they certainly won’t deter me now. I’m very pleased to say that a dedication to compromise and cooperation has kept the House running and running well under my watch, and I’m excited to bring this energy and activity to the Senate.
With malice toward none, with charity for all, as our region’s namesake once said – those must be the qualities we seek in our public servants, and I hope that you will join me in striving on towards a more equal region and a more perfect union.
