I've been looking at the COVID results, and the one thing that really struck me is how low the testing numbers in some states.  They're clearly taking Trump's advice in limiting the testing to make their numbers appear lower.  So I decided to calculate the percentage of positive tests in each state, which is probably the best measure to evaluate how each state has handled the virus (even though it doesn't take into account population density because sparsely populated states should naturally have better numbers).

(If there's some site that actually has these percentages and I don't have to calculate this again if I want an updated list, please let me know)

Top 10:

Vermont (split) 1.08%
Maine (D) 1.13%
Alaska (R) 1.86%
New Hampshire (split) 2.79%
West Virginia (R) 2.87%
Hawaii (D) 2.97%
Rhode Island (D) 3.04%
New Mexico (D) 3.29%
Connecticut (D) 3.34%
Michigan (split) 3.43%

Washington DC (D) 3.75%
Wyoming (R) 3.89%
New York (D) 4.30%
Montana (split) 4.50%
Maryland (split) 4.60%
Washington (D) 4.69%
Ohio (R) 4.71%
Kentucky (split) 4.80%
Minnesota (D) 4.85%
Oregon (D) 5.01%
Illinois (D) 5.12%
Massachusetts (split) 5.20%
California (D) 5.40%
New Jersey (D) 5.57%
Indiana (R) 5.78%
Virginia (D) 6.55%- Median
-
National Average 6.78%
-
Tennessee (R) 6.79%
North Carolina (split) 6.88%
Louisiana (split) 6.98%
Missouri (R) 6.99%
Utah (R) 7.03%
Oklahoma (R) 7.17%
Delaware (D) 7.20%
Nevada (D) 7.56%
Pennsylvania (split 7.64%
Colorado (D) 7.69%
Arkansas (R) 7.89%
Wisconsin (split) 8.71%
Georgia (R) 9.62%
South Carolina (R) 9.78%
Nebraska (R) 10.12%

Bottom 10:

North Dakota (R) 10.20%
Texas (R) 11.33%
Iowa (R) 11.45%
Mississippi (R) 11.47%
Kansas (split) 11.94%
Arizona (R) 12.15%
South Dakota (R) 12.71%
Alabama (R) 13.01%
Florida (R) 13.19%
Idaho (R) 14.23%

So of the 15 worst states in regards to positive test rate, 13 are fully controlled by Republicans, and the other 2 have Dem governors with GOP legislatures

D controlled state median: 4.85 (MN)
Split state median: 5 (MA/ KY)
R controlled state median: 9.69 (GA/SC)

We could have had a lot less deaths in this country with better administration.

People aren't getting tested unless they have an outbreak, I have been sick but aside from flu like symptoms, I don't get tested

https://data.cms.gov/stories/s/COVID-19-Nursing-Home-Data/bkwz-xpvg

Search for the subheading "COVID-19 Testing" and you will find a couple of links labeled "here".

The web page is for Nursing Homes, but the data is for the general population of each county, providing background infection rates for the counties containing nursing homes.

Let me know if you need help converting to state totals. The advantage of these data sets is that they give 14-day rates.

There is a problem with any scientific analysis whenever you mention a political party causing the problem in the first sentence.

Your numbers are suiting your political bias, hence the credibility of the scientific analysis under any normal level of scrutiny is diminished.

Wow, New York must have done a great job then, according to this detailed analysis.  Somebody better adjust that death count, it can’t be true.
