I saw this in a campaign ad, do Americans (in blue states) actually do this? I mean under 6 y/o children wearing masks in an outdoors playground? I am as pro mask as you can get, but this seems completely insane.
I’ve seen some people drive in their cars alone with masks in my county. I am a radical masker for the most part, but this does seem to be a bit excessive. COVID really doesn’t spread outdoors, so masking outdoors isn’t that necessary.

How about masking at home? As I've noted elsewhere, my father continues to require me to wear a mask around him and my stepmother, even though I'm fully vaccinated. He told me that he wants for me to do so until the end of the year, until there is "more data" on the effectiveness of the vaccine. I would say that's going too far.

Back when I was masking (which I'm not anymore, as I've been fully vaccinated since April) I would occasionally do this for convenience, not extra protection.  For example, while running errands I might go to the hardware store and then to the grocery store, which is a half mile away.  I would just keep my mask on for the brief drive between them; it was easier than taking it off and putting it on again a minute later.

I masked at home when there was someone else here. I masked in the car all the time because it was easier.

That is weird. I only mask up if I am a guest in the home of someone who either hasn’t been vaccinated or if their vaccination status is unknown.

Like I've said before, my father isn't comfortable with the situation now, and thinks that the virus is going to have a resurgence. I'm fully vaccinated, but both he and my stepmother still think that I can transmit the virus to them if I catch it.

What concerns me most are the variant strains and the fact that this virus is still multiplying an extraordinary amount of times in human bodies. If we had 80-90%+ uptake of the vaccine, I wouldn't be too concerned. It's clear the vaccines are working and I'm glad to be one of those that is fully vaccinated. However, I also think the warmer weather is keeping the infection numbers lower. Looking at where vaccine rates are low, there probably will be a fall resurgence in some areas and it won't be pretty with the current variants.

With that said, what concerns me even more is a viral mutation that could render our current vaccines useless. That's partly what bothers me about declaring victory right now. This virus is still multiplying exponentially in human bodies across the world. Every replication is a chance for the virus to become something else.

I'm in the minority now, but I'm still sticking with my mask when I'm grocery shopping. At the very least, I haven't been sick this year or last year. I will probably reduce my trips to places like the grocery store though. I've already seen people coughing without covering their mouth. Sad

You father is probably correct in light of the variants, but if you are fully vaccinated there is an almost 100% chance you won’t die from COVID, though there is still a chance you can carry and transmit it to others.

Anyone else going to wear a cloth mask outside when it’s freezing outside?
I’m tired of my face being cold.

I still carry a mask and put it on when using a public restroom.  Greatest discovery ever.

I probably will. Maybe a neck gator as opposed to an N95 mask would work better for me to stay warm.

To his point, I'm not sure what else we can do. Anyone who's not a minor can get vaccinated, for free and pretty soon. The President and the media have been continuously urging people to get vaccinated for months. And most of the people who aren't vaccinated are pretty dug in.

I think that mask mandates could have been used as an incentive to encourage increased vaccinations. The CDC really errored by not pursuing such a policy.

What we could do is very very easy: implement a national vaccine mandate.

It is absurd that we put up with economic shutdowns for months and a mask mandate for over a year, but we are unwilling to mandate something that will literally just inconvenience people for a few hours but solve the problem completely.

I mean, the vaccinations have been continuing, so as long as the vaccines are effective against the delta variant, there shouldn't be much more to worry about than there was with the alpha variant. Biggest problems are going to be in states where vaccinations rates are low.
