Since I am forced off work for a bit I am seriously considering driving to New Hampshire to summit Mount Washington.

If in any public place I will wear a kn95 mask due to situation. Not one of those nasty cloth masks.

FDA authorizes Covid-19 vaccines for younger children

Quote
The Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines are now authorized for emergency use in young children. The US Food and Drug Administration expanded the authorizations for the vaccines Friday to include children as young as 6 months.

However, shots can't be given until the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's vaccine advisers have voted on whether to recommend them -- a vote is scheduled for Saturday -- and CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has signed off on that recommendation. The White House has said vaccinations for younger children may begin next week.

Moderna's vaccine is now authorized for use in children 6 months through 17 years and Pfizer/BioNTech's for children 6 months through 4 years. About 17 million kids under the age of 5 are now are eligible for Covid-19 vaccines.

It looks like if you want to get vaccinated again this fall or winter, you are going to have look to your insurance company to pay the cost (like they already do for the flu):

We don't need to keep getting booster shots it's called the flu vaccine and Covid is just like the flu most of the people that die from it already have serious medical issues anyway, like my DAD, healthy people may come down with it but not die, I am content to having my annual flu vaccine

If we hold to this hopeful pattern through next winter, we can declare the pandemic all but over by March or April next year, and I will have officially joined Camp 5:

That’s pretty good news. I am in Camp 4 at the moment, but will move to Camp 5 if the predictions stay true.

I've been so careful, but stopped wearing a mask recently. Was exposed Monday to a girl who didn't know she had it until the next day.

Congratulations! It is good that you BREATHED in the omicron. The extra immunity will come in handy for this upcoming winter!!

I wish there was a way to know which variant I have.

Er…which version of omicron anyway. BA.5 sounds bad.

I currently have COVID for the second time.  Date of infection Tuesday, June 28.  My friend I had hung out with told me she had tested positive.  Then I noticed my brain just refusing to focus, refusing to put in effort on things, and figured there might be something wrong with me.  Then on Saturday I woke up with a sore throat.  Between those three things I decided to get tested, and tested positive.

I'm on day 6, and so far nothing but some headaches and tiredness despite 10+ hours of sleep every night.  Last time I had COVID, I was already experiencing intense nausea and fever by this point, so I'm hopeful that I'll end up basically symptom-free.  I'm also not coughing up a storm like I did last time.

I've got a trip planned and bumped the date to July 8 so I could have ten days between infection and air travel, following the guidelines.  This is my fourth dose of COVID after vaccine, booster, and infection in January.

GeneralMacArthur, glad your bout of covid this time is easy going.

This is my first time with it and it’s been basically a sinus infection. I’m vaccinated and boosted.

I’ve read BA.5 may be more severe and also may evade recent immunity garnered from recent infection, which is worrisome.

"Go out, infect other people. Some will die. Covid smovid."

No one's really dying of covid anymore.  The winter Omicron wave was the last time covid was causing a statistically significant number of deaths.  It's never going to be literally zero due to the whole deaths from covid/deaths with covid thing, but recent waves haven't seen deaths increase at all from the trough.  So, yes, I unironically believe covid positive people should go about their lives unless they feel sick enough to be more comfortable staying at home.

Assuming this is accurate, it looks like the number of excess deaths in the US is now ~zero.  In fact, there were slightly more deaths per week at this point in 2018 and 2019 then there are now:
