Quote
Former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said some capitalists "are going to be the first" to be "shot in the revolution" in a tweet Wednesday.

"Me-first capitalists who think you can separate society from business are going to be the first people lined up against the wall and shot in the revolution," he wrote. "I'll happily provide video commentary."

Costolo was responding to a tweet in a thread about whether tech companies and business leaders should involve themselves in social justice issues.

Twitter hasn't taken down this Tweet yet.  I suppose it will eventually.

What does it say about the state of affairs in America when a former CEO of a major communication platform and Social Media provider makes a statement like this?  What does it say about cpntent deletes and censors?  Where is the storm of outrage across the spectrum on this?

Remember this the next time someone tells you that they've cancelled some conservative figure's account on Twitter.  Remember this when a post supporting a viewpoint not conforming with the Left's narrative is deleted.

There's a lot of people in the Silicon Valley bubble whose lives are so easy and so insulated from the actual problems in America that they just fantasize about exciting, ridiculous things and derive their political views from those fantasies.

A lot of the time it's just based on fiction they've read that sounded good in their imagination.  Whether that fiction be some sci-fi book, Atlas Shrugged, or the Chapo Trap House book.

Honestly, a (current or former) social media executive should be first against the wall when etc., but not for that reason.

Can inequality only be fixed by war, revolution or plague?

He's not coming up with this because of wokeness. The people in Silicon Valley know they benefit from massive wealth inequality. They can't believe what they get away with. They are always thinking about the future. Part of thinking about the future is envisioning future outcomes. History is pretty clear on what follows periods of rampant wealth inequality.

Nick Hanauer has written and lectured extensively about this.

This is not significantly different from alt-righters telling people to get in the oven.

Also, does this guy not realize that given his position in life he'd be one of the first ones to get killed in a situation like that. Probably well before whoever that random guy he was tweeting at. He's like the clueless bourgeoisie anarchist being described in Holiday in Cambodia.

Disgusting.

I really hate comfortable first-world types talking so nonchalantly about revolution. People don't fully grasp how destructive the process is, and how it hits society's most vulnerable hardest. Revolution means death, poverty, destruction, and misery. It can be justified in circumstances of genuine desperation, but the 21st-century United States certainly does not meet the criteria.

Western capitalism has produced the highest standard of living in human history. This is empirically true. If you want to reform it and make things even better--that's great. We can improve. Regardless, it takes an unbelievable amount of arrogance to want to topple our comparatively prosperous and free society. For most of human history, people would do literally anything for the opportunity to live like an average modern-day American.

Most of the revolutions during the fall of communism were peaceful.

If he or any other well-meaning rich guy wants to make themselves useful, they should be writing fat checks to Democrats from the top to the bottom of the ballot and then using the face time and access that money buys them to advocate for raising taxes on rich people and buttressing public healthcare and retirement spending, among other things.

This kind of LARPing accomplishes nothing.

I didn't know Costolo was responsible for writing the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy's entry on the Marketing Department of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation.

Twitter has apparently deleted the post.  It certainly took them long enough.
