She was expressing frustration about things she had on her plate at the time, including Christmas decorating, which she found a bore, and her comment about the children was in relation to the fact that she herself could not do anything about it, and that there was (some) family separation under Obama, too.

That said, the hypocrisy of her complaining about this while the Republicans screamed about a war on Christmas for years is palpable.  I see this as further proof that the current occupants of the White House are not some moral couple that wish to change America but grifters that see the religious right as a path to power and riches.

Given the inseparable intertwined connection between Fox News and the trumps, in fact that Melania was not a paid Fox News correspondent does it make her derogatory and dismissive statements about Christmas any less hypocritical.  She is unquestionably part of Team "War on Christmas".

As another poster pointed out previously, we can only imagine how Fox would lose their ever-loving mind if Michelle Obama was ever reported saying anything remotely like this.

The irony is that we've had many First Ladies who have enjoyed headlining or participating in such events. Many of them have taken their responsibilities as the White House hostess seriously. And again, what if Michelle Obama had said something like this? So I can't sympathize with Melania Trump, who lives such a comfortable and privileged life, on this.
