Those early reports, from back in February and March, that the virus could potentially infect up to 70% of the American population seem to be bearing themselves out. It seems like half of Washington D.C. has contracted coronavirus at this point.

The stubborn refusal of the White House and Congress to move to a work-from-home model is a reminder of how much of politics is based on physical proximity to power and influence.

Instead, a bunch of 70 year olds who probably shouldn't even be going to the grocery store are puttering around cramped 19th century buildings, shaking hands, eating together, talking in meetings where they're sitting right next to each other.

I'd certainly agree with you. McConnell, in particular, refused to consider changes to Senate procedures that would enable them to work from home, although he has permitted for several "safety protocols" to be put in place (i.e. mask-wearing, socially distanced hearings, etc.) It will be horrible if a member of Congress were to die from this virus, but given their ages and health, it's a real possibility at this point.

This keeps getting worse OMFG.

I just read up on Claudia Conway.

A rebellious liberal daughter to a very conservative family, she reminds me quite a bit of myself.
I follow her on her TikTok, she’s pretty interesting, although very sad. Kellyanne (and George) is an a**hole.

The bulk of my sympathy is directed at Barron right now, because losing a parent when you're a teenager would be devastating. Even a seriously ill parent can be stressful.

Yeah this. Whereas trump is a horrible person and his wife and adult children are enablers, if not truly terrible people, as well, Barron didn't sign up for this and potentially losing a parent is a brutal thing to have to face. My sympathy for this situation begins and ends with him.
Collateral damage.

It's people like you that led to Trump being in office in the first place because they saw both sides as being the same.

A rough estimate, based on around 210,000 deaths and a 0.5% to 1% fatality rate, is that around 20-40 million Americans have been infected, potentially more. NYT reports that there have been 266,000 excess deaths, some of those were probably caused by the Covid-19 pandemic but not by the Covid-19 virus itself. That gives a range of 25 million to a bit over 50 million. Still, probably only around 15% of the population has been infected, I think the published estimates are that it is still around 10% or less.

In addition to Lee, Tillis, Melania Trump, and Conway, I can also see Blackburn, Sasse, Hawley, and Barr in that group. Sasse was wearing a mask-but Blackburn and Hawley were not (and neither was Barr). All three Senators need to get themselves tested immediately, if they haven't already done so (Barr was tested already and came back negative, I believe). And Tillis was also wearing a mask-which may explain why he's asymptomatic. That is, he may have received less of a viral load than others who were infected-such as Lee and Conway, both of whom are experiencing mild symptoms.

Nyt lists him as a negative but I wouldn’t be surprised if he tests positive after a few more days. I still fear about Biden because of the incubation period.

The floodgates will really open by Sunday/Monday. We know this spreaaaad

Yeah...the more this spreads the worse for Trump.
The sympathy effect only goes so far, especially if enough people get it that it gives off the impression of a failed administration to the public (not just Atlas red-avs)

No joke, this could rip through the Judiciary Committee at the most inconvenient time imaginable for the GOP.

My fear is that Biden might, in the next 3 or 4 days.
I hope he wasn't exposed by that Orange Moron on stage.
