I don't think sympathy support is really a thing and it especially isn't going to happen in this case. Trump made fun of masks, held huge rallies and tried to cover up how serious the virus is. Sympathy for what, stupidity?

Yeah, plus I think people really overestimate the amount of sympathy that half the country is able to generate for the likes of Donald Trump. He has disgusted such a large segment of the population with his actions over the past five years that it is simply impossible for many of us to muster any sympathy for him as an individual.

Heck, even most of his lukewarm supporters don't like him as a person and just support him because of muh economy. Dow futures have fallen 500+ points since the announcement tonight; this doesn't help him.

Everyone knowing me knows how much I detest Mr. Trump for obvious and countless reasons, but I don't wish him bad. Hope he recovers and goes on to lose the election in a landslide.

I'm really not so sure he might get a sympathy bump. Either way, if he dies, Pence will get one and appear presidential. If Trump recovers quickly, he'll look strong. Maybe I'm too concerned, but I have my doubts this helps Biden. He's most likely still gets elected, but overall it's bad news either way.

This would depend on the state, but I assume that Trump/Pence would still be on the ballot in most states, since voters aren’t actually voting for Trump, they are voting for a Trump/Pence slate of electors, who would then likely vote for Pence in the electoral college vote.
