These numbers will skyrocket if Trump refuses to accept election results, or if he casually accepts them while decrying voter fraud as being the reason for his loss.

I'd be shocked if people don't die because of this election

The night of November 3 will tell us a lot about the future of our government. Pretty decent chance widespread violence breaks out depending on the results and reactions of the candidates, but there's also still a pretty decent chance it doesn't. It all rests on the President and how he responds to absentee voting.

The fact that the numbers doubled on both sides in 2020 makes me this is in response to the Floyd riots.

The increase in the use of violence in the political system is often cited as the main trend in the collapse of the Roman Republic. But I'm sure this is nothing to worry about.

Anyone who is against political violence but votes for either party is incredibly confused

You don't even need to go that far; rising political violence and radicalization is generally considered to be one of the main causes of the Spanish Civil war.

The two major political factions in this country have a lot of violent assholes in them and not enough calm assholes on their own side telling them to chill out.  Nearly everyone active in politics is to blame, yes that includes YOU*.

*if you're not actively telling people on your own side to calm the hell down, the violence is (at least a little) your fault.

They are likely to rise anyway (less likely under a Biden presidency, but he'd need a run of very pleasant surprises to avoid that problem).

As long as government (most importantly, federal government) refuses to navigate political divides (instead delegating them to the SC), polarisation and the erosion of its authority/public legitimacy will continue apace. A government widely deemed illegitimate insisting that it speaks for the nation is one of the crucial elements in inspiring revolt and unrest.
