But just in case it wasn't obvious, the last time a Democrat won the White House, it was through scorched earth tactics that defined opponents early and added a big dollop of populism and character assassination. The people who make or break elections don't want "a return to normalcy" (that's code for well-off white people with minimal ideological convictions who don't want to think about politics anymore): they want brass-knuckled fighters.
