The 2000 GOP primaries were boring, Bush and McCain both had flaws.

It shows how Reagan and Bush's departure from Republican politics give the GOP Gingrich and Bush Jr in the 1990s and 2000s. A huge void.

They’re much worse than the Bushes. HW was actually an OK president. Jeb! has become an amusing meme. Dubya was the only truly bad one, and even then he was more competent (amazingly) and certainly more empathetic, respectful of our democratic norms and institutions, and well-intentioned than Trump. Probably responsible for fewer deaths now too. And his work on AIDS in Africa was a truly positive, lasting accomplishment. Not sure if Trump will have anything remotely positive to be remembered for.

Going back even further, Prescott Bush was one of Ike's top allies in the Senate. He supported civil rights legislation and was a critic of Joe McCarthy.
