These revelations would have completely doomed any previous President's re-election bid. Why do we give Trump a free pass?
Because he's a beast.

He's over $300M in debt despite cheating the system in his favor. He ran for President to boost his brand & now he's using the presidency to enrich himself. He's not a beast, he's a f**king loser.

Having debt as a businessman is normal, not necessarily a bad thing.

Not remotely to this degree, or with his projected income dropping to the bottom of the charts while massive amounts of personally guaranteed loans are looming due.

More to the point, it's a huge huge huge difference when you were president of the United States and expose yourself to every sort of financial leverage point.

That's not normal.

His supporters touted his Savvy business sense as grounds to elect him to look out for the rest of us, and he missed a 50% rise in the market. LOL LOL LOL!

Second thoughts, chips? Hopefully?

Not surprising. Instead of making this about Trump's taxes directly it should be about:

1. He's a failed businessman. Look at how much he lost.
2. Highlight some of the flaws of our tax system.

This. Most Republicans, and more than a few independent voters, we'll take this as proof that he's just a good businessman biplane the rules as they are written, which isn't his fault. Of course, the issue is that as president he'll do nothing to close such loopholes as everyone knows Trump is all about fattening his own wallet and any tax reform will cost him personally

Agreed. As messed up as it is this is honestly one thing I can't blame him on if he was within the law. He technically didn't do anything wrong.

At the risk of sounding like I'm contradicting myself, that's actually not true. I'm merely commenting on what the popular perception will be among his supporters and those low-information voters. The fact is his tax accounting is sketchy as f##k. That's the reason he's being audited over a 3/4 billion dollar tax write-off, and rode off 70 grand worth of hairstyling oh, just as the tip of the iceberg.

As a perfect comparison, look at the Tweet earlier in this thread listing the relative amount in taxes paid by Biden, Harris, Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren oh, all the same year Trump paid 750 bucks. The last three were in the six digits, and buying paid over three million. That's not because they're hundreds of thousands of times not as smart - - or that they're accountants are hundreds of thousands of times stupider- - but because Trump is a Bonafide Crook and grifter.

Just to put things in perspective in fiscal year 2018, the average SNAP household received about $256 a month, and the average recipient about $127 a month. So $3,072 per household and $1,524 per individual for a food program that overwhelmingly covers the working poor, children living in poverty, poor seniors, and the disabled. Put that into perspective with the ridiculous deductions granted to Trump and people like him. Trump wrote off $70,000 in hair styling alone and $100,000 in styling for Ivanaka.

Who are the real welfare queens?

Today I learned that I've been paying more taxes than Donald Trump year after year after year.

Really makes you question that crimson-red avatar you're sporting, eh? Yeah, if Democrats fail to prosecute Trump & Co. and make sweeping structural reforms (DC statehood, SC expansion, etc.), I'm going crimson-red without a second thought. The system is massively corrupt, and vast, unearned wealth in the hands of sociopathic morons is a recipe for disaster.

Perhaps it's because real millionaires don't have to resort to what can most charitably be called extremely aggressive interpretations of tax accounting, and what based on available reporting indicates a long standing family tradition of tax fraud.

The timing of the NYT political hit piece is very suspect. If you have to question the timing, you have to question the motives. If you have to question the motives, you have to question the ‘facts.’

Liberals are so afraid they will lose this election, that they bring out their most standard of dirty tactics.

I actually don't question the facts at all, because Donny indicated the information was obtained illegally, which to me indicates he knows now they have the goods. Yesterday he was saying the story itself wasn't true.

If Trump loses, he's probably going bankrupt (again) will all these loans. Heck, if he was smart, he'd drop out of the race in exchange for enough people paying him a billion or so.

I didn't know you made that decision.
Out of curiosity, did you announce (post about) it here in Atlas? If so, I missed it.
And if you made the decision "a while ago," what event/reason changed you mind back then?

If he wasn't so crooked or incompetent this doesn't even have to be the case.

Post Presidency he would command huge book deals, speaking fees, and will probably get a record breaking contract for another reality TV show. Most Presidents try not to enrich themselves from the Presidency but do you really see Trump having that kind of integrity? He can easily earn a lot of money, he's one of the most famous/infamous people in the world. The problem is that everything he tries to run is mismanaged to the ground, and the image he created as a billionaire with a golden touch has been totally exposed for good. The Trump name won't have the same value it ever had for licensing in the general public so he will hope he has staying power and finds a niche with conservatives.

The New York Times already won a Pulitzer for their reporting on his tax avoidance and inheritance from Fred Trump, I see more prizes awarded for fantastic journalism in their future.

I just updated my post to include a "Pulitzer Prize" comment.
And I swear, I didn't see your post before doing it.
LOL.

Exactly my thought when I read that comment, lol. Talk about a suspect political move.

Plus, the Clinton accusations were a nothingburger. These tax returns are established fact. You can argue about the timing all day long, but everything in there is true and it's up to us to decide how we feel about it.

Honestly, is anyone surprised by this? It's what I and many others said for years. There is a reason Mr. Trump is hiding the returns with phony argument of "audit". And I'm sure this report is just the tip of the iceberg ...

... And finally, the revelations prove, as others already knew, he's anything but a successful businessman. That destroys the argument he used to sell himself. Mr. Trump is one of the biggest conmen of our time. If not the biggest.

I want to take this time to give Runeghost (Ghost of Ruin) a big pat-in-the-back.
He never gave-up giving us constant threads and posts regarding trump's shady business and tax dealings over the last 4/5 years. That trump was a con-man and un-profitable businessman. Many of us, didn't even bother to acknowledge and respond to his posts of Tweets and other information he gathered, that all pointed EXACTLY to "something like this."

Well, he was right! Big Kudos to Runeghost!
And in the funny spirit of Biden words, I tell you all to "push the Recommend button (below), you bastards."
