Due to pressure from Palestinian and progressive groups. Now I was never a big Rabin fan but this is just ridiculous for so many reasons.

Could cause some damage with old Jews in Florida if Trump plays it right.

Trump is in trouble in FL due to the fact seniors have died in nursing homes due to Covid 19, Biden will win FL. Trump downplayed Covid 19 and could have saved seniors lives by earlier testing and wearing of mask.

Biden is done. There's no coming back from this.

Don’t straw man me, the election is the peripheral issue here.

An event is always made better when AOC opts not to appear.

Lol what?

Literally nobody cares about this.

There are zero voters who are leaning Biden but just waiting to see what AOC does about this event.

Yeah, Jewish voters are not Biden’s problem in FL (or anywhere tbh).  What Biden needs to do is give a few hardline anti-Communist/anti-Castro/anti-Putin speeches in Miami explicitly linking anti-Castro and anti-Putin sentiment while attacking Trump as soft on Russia/communism.  At least one of these should be billed as a major announcement type speech so it gets national coverage.

That’s Biden’s best play in FL right now imo since IIRC Bloomberg is already doing tons of targeted outreach to AA and a Puerto Rican voters on Biden’s behalf, plus Biden’s campaign isn’t asleep at the wheel the way Nelson’s was in 2018.

This in zero ways affects Biden, especially as I'm sure he'll be the first to condemn this and offer his own tribute to Rabin.

She is what she is, and what she is is an unrepentant Corbynist. She tried to play coy for a while, but the full Jew-hatred is going to come out in spades as she gears up to run for POTUS in 2024.

I didn't realize Palestine advocates hated Rabin, certainly not to the extent of demanding a politician boycott an event dedicated to him.

Far-left radicals who have taken up the Palestinian cause usually even consider "soft anti-zionists" like Sophie Ellman-Golan to be "Collaborators" because they oppose attacks against diaspora Jews in the name of Palestine to be unacceptable.

The creeping pro-Palestinian sentiment among the left, now manifested in several elected officials, is pretty unnerving, not gonna lie.  Of course it's most prominent among young voters and young representatives who don't even remember the Second Intifada.

Good. It was concerning that she planned on attending it at all.
I'm glad AOC has been receptive to criticism instead of digging in like politicians tend to do.

The reason she cancelled is that her entire base of power is situation on a teetering tower of online leftists who lately have been looking for any reason to cancel her to fuel their lean mean outrage machine.

I think endorsing Biden got her on the enemies list.

Hugely disappointed in AOC, and in the other maroon avatar in this thread. If memorializing Yitzhak Rabin is too (((Zio))) for you, the only direction left to go on Israel/Palestine is full Ethnic Cleansing But Woke.

The other maroon avatar has openly said that they don't consider Israel a legitimate nation, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

It looks like she received backlash from several major Palestinian advocacy groups and activists behind the scenes, and decided to change her mind. There is a world outside of the internet, you know.

Or we go for a South Africa (or BiH) solution that maintains the rights of all.

I am always disturbed by those who hold such viewpoints. It is as if they forget about the Holocaust, which is the very reason why the Jewish people need a safe and secure homeland of their own, so that they can never be placed in jeopardy again, at the hands of an enemy that would seek their annihilation (like the Nazis did). Yes, I'm aware of the arguments about how the Palestinians have been treated, and I certainly don't condone much of what Netanyahu's government has done. But that shouldn't be extended to say that the Holy Land is to be closed off entirely to those who call it their home.

The thing is, I doubt most good-faith advocates of that solution (which I support, btw, at least in the abstract) think that Rabin was teh ev0l like these backers of AOC's apparently do.

Oh, you mean me? I would say memorializing Rabin is a bad idea.
If Rabin is the furthest "left" possible, then that presents a very bleak vision, my friend.

I would appreciate it if you didn't go around putting words in my mouth. Thank you.

Do you only ever approve of memorializing or thinking well of figures who are "the furthest left possible"?

The objective fact is that Rabin and Arafat, during that particular stage of Arafat's long and checkered career, came closer than anyone else has before or since to forging a peace that both Jewish and Arab inhabitants of the Southern Levant could more or less live with. They certainly came closer than any subsequent generation of Palestinian "leadership", and they sure as hell came closer than Netanyahu, Gantz, and their crew have any interest in coming. I think we should be allowed to mourn that missed opportunity and honor the people who almost made it work without having to weep and gnash our teeth that Rabin and Arafat weren't woke baes who could do no wrong.

Last post in the thread. Still quoted, even if the actual post was deleted in...oh, the last fifteen minutes.

I mean, it was five years ago, so if you've changed your mind on the idea that "Only Palestine has the right to exist as a legitimate state", I'm open to hearing that. We've all moved on from terribly bigoted opinions.

If you support something along those lines, then it logically follows that you should have time for Rabin, one of the only senior politicians in the history of the entire region to have believed in a liberal (rather than ethnic) notion of the polity.

I'm not familiar with Rabin or Peace Now, but generally I fe glad to see politicians doing things other than fellating Israel 24/7 and turning their backs on Palestine.
