That's not true. Cruz' murderous exploits have been an unsavoury staple of popular culture for decades now. Dirty Harry's villain was directly inspired by his atrocities, although perhaps the reimagining of his hands-on approach as the work of a sniper was offensive to the guy.

Hollywood has been a den of iniquity since at least the 1920's. The casting couch is the norm and not the exception. Commies? There have been conservative actors such as Walter Brennan (the fellow actually cheered when MLK was assassinated!), John Wayne, and Jimmy Stewart down to modern times.  One can get away with much in Hollywood if one's movies are seen, whether one is an actor or director. Hollywood moguls have always protected their cash cows in human form. Hollywood moguls might sacrifice someone if that once-popular star is losing his audience.  

Hollywood is a money machine above all else. It is a jungle, which probably fosters liberal attitudes. Also, unlike most private industry, it is a potential haven for people with left-wing tendencies that would not be tolerated in a bank teller or a dollar-store clerk.

Hollywood has and has had some conservatives. Chuck Norris might be no surprise, but Alex Trebek is.
