It is so pathetic that people who claim to care so much about a person before they're born or in the first few minutes after they're born care so little about people at any point after that.

It's called being a hypocrite.

This is a thing that doesn’t actually happen in real life, at least not to any notable degree, but it’s great politically for the GOP to rail against this non-existent problem. Much like voter fraud.

Will you be paying the hospital bills for every birth instead of letting the hospitals charge obscene amounts? No?

Then go f*** yourself.

There's an entire mythology in the forced-birth movement about miracle babies saved by God from an abortion. This is propaganda aimed at those people, who maintain a purposeful ignorance about fetal termination procedures.

Even if Trump loses, what are we gonna do about the millions of Americans who are living in a fantasy world? Especially since they've congregated at a state level & our Constitution gives more power to geography than humanity?

Is this a thing that exists? Does this EO actually do anything?

I obviously support this, but I can’t help but wonder why he didn’t do this before and only this close to the election?

Or better yet, have Congress pass a law to that effect at some point in 2017 or 2018?

Maybe because he has nothing but contempt for the pro-lifers and sees them as useful idiots to lead along in pursuit of tax cuts.

While he's at it could he also sign a bill banning the practice of euthanizing centenarians?  I read a story on ZeroHedge about some woman whose friend had a coworker who euthanized her great-grandmother once she turned 100.  It continues to disturb me that Democrats won't come out against this.

That's 3 degrees of separation just to get to the news article. We're probably not getting the whole/correct story even everyone recounted the story honestly.

It does nothing as it literally just reiterates existing law.

That's sarcasm my dude. Somehow I doubt that GeneralMacArther is an avid reader of Zero Hedge.

Hasn't this already been federal law since the early 2000s, back when there was a right-wing President who was capable of getting social-conservative legislative victories rather than just appointing conservative life peers judges?

This EO means absolutely nothing considering that it's stopping something that DOESN'T HAPPEN.

I actually agree with this, editorialization about "the forced-birth movement" aside. Lots of the specific concerns of the American pro-life movement, and much of its rhetorical stock-in-trade, is and are plainly disconnected from reality. The church I've been going to lately (because it's being more responsible about social distancing than other Catholic churches in my county) is still quoting Norma McCorvey now and then in its parish bulletin, even after what came out about her earlier this year! I know Gandhi is cancelled now or whatever, but the concept of "truth-force" is a very wise one; a political movement, especially one with significant and deeply ambivalent human-rights implications, needs to be in some basic sense rooted in reality if it's to effect any kind of positive change.

There are obvious flirtations with unreality on the pro-choice side too, like the true-from-a-certain-point-of-view "3% of Planned Parenthood's services" factoid, but they don't seem nearly as pervasive. It shows an ideological and moral insecurity among pro-lifers that I think is tragic and needless given that the pro-life position has a fairly straightforward rationale behind it, even though it's an unpopular one. But precisely because a consistent and sincere pro-life position is unpopular (and always has been, there probably never was a pre-feminist or pre-Enlightenment or pre-whatever golden age where there was a genuine cultural consensus in favor of a fetal right to life, just look at "Tam Lin" or the descriptions of pennyroyal in medieval and early modern pharmacological documents), the political pro-life movement feels the need to draw in negatively-partisan culture warriors and unscrupulous ideological adventurers with this sort of smoke-and-mirrors gimcrackery and artifice.
