Will Americans ever stop deifying the Constitution and the Founding Fathers?

Way too many Americans act like the Constitution is a flawless document that should under no circumstances ever be adjusted, and the Founding Fathers were all divine/enlightened men who nobody, except Lincoln, has been able to match the political intellect and moral character of them ever since the founding of this nation.

Countries and societies exist for the sake of the people living in them now, not people who have been dead for hundreds of years.

What James Madison would have thought about a national health insurance program or same-sex marriage or not buying and selling black people as farm equipment is really immaterial to the discussion.

IMO the best comparison in this regard is nineteenth to (pre-Republic) early-twentieth century China and its strong reverence for former dynasties, especially the Han dynasty.
