Now of course it’s no where near to the extent of the original quote but I changed some of the words in Tarkin’s famous words and got this:

National Party Leaders : “The powers of the states and cities will be no use to us anymore , the last remnants of federalism have been swept away . Fear will keep the state and local parties in line , fear of the national parties”

Certainly a reasonable fear. I do get frustrated with how our system of federalism can impede reform, but I definitely think it has an upside in terms of guarding against tyranny and allowing for some level of local rule.

Empty tracts of land matter more than people - Republicans and libertarians, desperately clinging on to their 18th century value system

Imagine making a thread like this, but then making it about Tarkin being woke instead of criticizing Trump, McConnell and Graham as obvious Vader, Palpatine and Tarkin comparables.

Huh how is this saying Tarkin is woke lmao .

I think the last two decades should show both conservatives and liberals the importance of federalism which has been totally and utterly decimated by both parties . Currently Canada is far more of a federalist nation than the US so it shows you how much federalism has been destroyed

Um, in Star Wars, it's actually about the end of the Senate, and how regional governors will now be in charge.

The Senate ending would actually be amazing for America. One house of congress, actually elected proportionally to the country's population.

Now we have a minority-elected Senate helping a minority-elected president preserve his minority rule and something like 5 of the 8 justices were nominated by presidents who didn't win the popular vote... American democracy is a hoax.

You're happy that federal power is waning and state power is increasing, right? I assumed you were endorsing Tarkin here, but maybe that was an error on my part.

From my perspective, it's really sad. In modern day Canada - and in MY opinion - things would be better if the feds had even more power and the provinces had even less. That may be due to our culture though and multi-party system. The more power the Feds hold, the more important federal elections are and the more people are inclined to come out and vote. I understand that USA is different than us, but IMO the Feds should have more power and the states less once you flush the shameless immoral Republican Party away and get a real right wing party.

I said I changed the words up ,

So I replaced senate with state and local power

The old republic with federalism

The battle station with national party leaders

No tarkin postion would be more federal power lol and literally so . And I’m lamenting the death of federalizations

Also lol at graham vs Tarkin comparison as tarkin didn’t even take orders from Vader and if you read the book it’s clear Tarkin has an extreme alpha personality

Thankfully never can happen due to this fact the constitution says :

Quote
that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.

So you would need every state to ratify an amendment abolishing the senate so thankfully the senate is here to stay

It's just ironic that you choose the quote where Palpatine is creating a federal system for the Empire.
