Case for yes: All pandemics end eventually.

Case for no: If the ACA is struck down, COVID becomes a pre-existing condition due to the damage it inflicts on various parts of the body. People won't admit they had it, thus contact tracing becomes impossible, as will be other efforts to fight the pandemic.

Personally, I find the case for "no" more convincing.

The permanent effects of COVID as a pre-existing condition are so severe that insurance companies will start demanding you get a test for COVID antibodies before you can get insurance, just like they currently demand you get a physical.

Yes most pandemics last 18-24 months.

I’d imagine that if they just overturn the ACA, the insurance companies will collapse and a lot of hospitals will close. Right now, you have to be super prime to get a healthcare loan. I imagine subprime healthcare loans will be the backbone of the next great credit bubble.

I’d figure it’ll be done by the end of  next spring.

The permanent effects of COVID as a pre-existing condition are so severe that insurance companies will start demanding you get a test for COVID antibodies before you can get insurance, just like they currently demand you get a physical.

Antibodies probably only stay in the body for a few months, although tests for T-cells, which are longer-lasting, may be developed in the future. Additionally, it is estimated that Covid causes long-term effects on around 10% of those who get it - a significant number, but hardly a universal pre-existing condition.

And to answer OP, yes, the pandemic will likely end by mid-2021, when a vaccine has been widely distributed.

People should still be able to access vaccines even if they don't have insurance, though, right?

So you think the US should deny the vaccine to poor people and thus risk becoming the last country in the world to eradicate Covid?

Sorry, on second reading your post does not necessarily imply that, although it hardly strikes a positive tone regarding free universal vaccination.

Even as a libertarian I feel vaccines to help end a pandemic should be paid for by the govt....if they can afford it, and ours can, even if it will be our grand children that will do with fewer Fed Govt services than they would prefer....maybe they'll be lucky like us and be able to pass it on to their grand kids.

Hardly impossible, dead Deadman. Treating this with unnecessary degrees of blase is unrealistic.

After all the stupid bulls**t you said about Covid for months, I can’t believe you have the gall to even speak on the subject.

As for the original question, yes Covid will end even if ACA is struck down.
I do think if that happens, it will accelerate demand for Universal healthcare in the future.

That's exactly what I think will happen. That doesn't mean I want it to happen; on the contrary, I hope it doesn't happen, because I'm not a monster.
